    The Hospital

    THE HOSPITAL
watch the hospital that's just across the street
The Hospital, situated in the centre of the city, is a large, free health care institution providing patient treatment by specialised staff and equipment. Unlike most hospitals, Portal Breach's resembles more of a clinic than the stereotypical hospital, both in appearance and in its offered facilities. It is not only a place to attend to immediate injuries, but also offers inpatient care and longer-term patient stays. It is also the place to go for less serious issues like colds, renewing prescriptions, getting simple check-ups, and other more mundane matters you would receive from private doctors or clinics. The only real difference is that healthcare on Portal Breach is free as long as you are a registered citizen, in addition to having free emergency care available to anyone, regardless of ethnicity or status.

One of the Head Doctors is Mordin Solus, a salarian geneticist skilled in the medical field, as well as being one of the rare exceptions of someone involved in this type of work who does not hesitate to get his hands dirty and tend to matters himself instead of relying on others. Thus, though you may not see him often, he will always be around the hospital somewhere or other, tending to patients, conducting surgeries, or otherwise attempting to research and document all citizens he has tended to in order to discover the best way to treat Portal Breach's extensive and varying populace. The other Head Doctor is Dr. SALLI, a female-programmed robot made specifically on Portal Breach to be of help to the hospital. If Mordin is the hospital's backbone, Dr. SALLI is surely the hospital's front and the most familiar face you will find there. She always makes the time to at least see to each patient once. Unlike Mordin who focuses on the varying biology of all the different patients, SALLI's hidden speciality is tending to robots, but she is always more than happy to provide help to others who may need it. Her right-hand man is Floyd, a young male human fresh out of medical school as well as the hospital's Head Nurse.

The hospital itself is a bright, clean and pleasantly-scented building, filled with the aroma of flowers and cleanliness rather than the scent of "death", so to speak. Most hospitals often are cleaned and disinfected so much that they have an unpleasant smell or no scent at all, often leaving those who enter it feeling nervous as well as a little nauseous. However, that is not the case here. Portal Breach's hospital is cleaned in such a way that it encourages all who visit to feel welcome and safe, rather than hesitant. Always clean and full of pleasant decorations such as flower vases and pictures of beautiful scenery, the hospital is a welcoming environment for children and adults alike.

The ground floor is comprised of the reception and waiting area, as well as the emergency care unit and the maternity ward. The Robot and Mental Wards are situated on the second floor, as well as the Blood Bank.
The rooms are cleaned everyday, no matter if they are used or not, and the patients are checked up on every hour rather than having to ring a bell for service. The rooms are pleasant and always try to contain a window or another bright thing, such as a large photograph or flowers. Each room has its own bathroom, along with a service bell (just in case), emergency button and a television, with full cable and color. The food isn't stereotypical, either. It's actually quite nice. Though, probably not up to par with most fancy restaurants, of course.

There is also a blood bank, where people may go to donate blood for transfusions, or alternatively, for the local vampires to come and get. They are kept in secured cups or packets, or, for those picky vampires, fresh ones are always on hand and ready to be given. There's a robotic medical wing opposite to the blood bank, that allows robots who cannot afford repairs, to come and get worked on. Local mechanics may come and assist a robot for free, simply for charity if they wish, to help out the community of robotics.
