    A warrior's keep

Post by Rasa 'Jeqkogoai on Mon Jul 04, 2011 7:07 am

By the time Rasa'Jeqkogomee had arrived to the hospital it was an hour after the exciting fight back at the coliseum. The Tally was still draped upon his shoulder, unconscious, and in his free hand were the human girl's weapons and anything he could carry. His armor was back upon his muscular body and his own items were snug securely upon his waist. He left no detail to waste and everything was accounted for.

"Hospital staff." The warrior growled as he passed through the sliding doors and immediately he clenched his mandibles tight. Disgusting. The air reeked of sterility and blood. This place was a disgrace and an abhorrent sight. He approached what was most likely a front counter and he glared down at anyone who was stationed there. "You. There." His tone was commanding, and Rasa'Jeqkogomee wasted no pleasantries. "I need two rooms. Two doctors. One preferably a higher sort who will touch me as little as next to possible."

This visit will most likely not last long. Only what was as necessary.

The pain was the first thing to register, but then again pain was usually always the first thing one registered when one had two broken arms. The next thing that she registered was a up and down motioned, always constantly repeating, Rasa's footsteps, though she couldn't recognize it at the time.

After that it was the sudden change in atmosphere, the humid summer air becoming dry and cooler, and a smell of cleaning materials. It comforted her and upset her all at the same time. And her hazy bubble slowly began to pop.

Where was she? What the hell was carrying her? And why did she feel like a sack of potatoes?

Unable to come up with an answer for any of her questions,Tally just groaned and stirred on Rasa's shoulder, returning slowly to the waking world as his gruff voice started to snap her out of her haze.

That day had been a slow day for Floyd the male nurse. Nothing going on, no one dying, no dragons trying to kill him. He had been having a good day. He had his feet up on the desk and was leaning back in his chair when Rasa'Jeqkogomee and Tally had walked in. Or rather, one walked, the other was on a shoulder.

He stiffened up in his chair as what looked like a robot glared down at him and made several demands, one of which was for 2 doctors and 2 rooms. Oh, if Floyd had eaten that morning, he'd have crapped his pants, no lie. An unconscious woman on the shoulder of a large blue robot looking guy who was NOT happy. Good thing they had two Doctors and two available rooms, he'd hate to have to tell this guy they didn't have what he needed.

"Oh sure, sure, I'll show you to your rooms, just uh, gimme a sec, gotta call the doctors..." His voice was shaky as he gave Rasa a nervous grin. He grabbed the intercom and turned it on. He cleared his throat before speaking. "Dr. Salli and Dr. Solus, we need ya'll in the first two rooms on floor one! We got two patients in need!" He announced, hoping the doctors would answer it quickly. He stood up and looked up at the alien, who was still taller than him. The girl shuffled and moved, but nothing else happened.

"I'll show you guys to your rooms, follow me!" He said, opening a door that lead out to the actual halls of the hospital. He lead them to the two closest rooms. "You can set her down in one of them, and take the other one, if ya want, I guess."

What? Call at this hour? Nurse Floyd's voice shaky? Not typical. Weird. Best go and check it out.

Dr. Mordin Solus set down the vaccine manifest and quickly power-walked his way down to the first floor of the hospital. It was dusk by now and having a visitor out of the blue came at an uncommon interval. Typically patients arrived in the morning or late night, after parties. Ah, well. Portal Breach was hardly typical and the salarian arrived into the lobby from the stairwell exit to see a rather interesting occurrence. "Nurse Floyd! Friends?" Mordin knew very well that they weren't, and he recognized one of the in-bound patients on the... ah, strange fellow's shoulders. "Hm, Miss Stevens. Was wondering when she'd turn up. Thankfully sooner than later. This way, please."

He directed the big fellow to follow him into one of the cleaned rooms and he pointed with a finger for him to set Miss Stevens down. Gently, if possible. This large individual seemed anything but gentle, but Mordin would not base facts upon out of place assumptions. Instead, his eyes roved around in their sockets as they normally did and he secretly took notes of this latest patient. "Very big fellow..." He mumbled. Could be alarm if security was needed.

Once Miss Stevens was properly placed upon the bed Mordin directed the other patient to follow him back out and to the room next to the current one. This room was identically like the other and Mordin pointed to the bed. "Please, sit. I will check you after Miss Stevens. Your wounds are not as bad. Her first. Priority." Mordin had finished assessing the larger individual's wounds and had already judged that Miss Stevens was in dire need of help first. On his way out he tipped his head to Nurse Floyd to address him. "Please tell Dr. SALLI that she does not have to be here. I can handle both. Two not necessary. Help appreciated, but not necessary. Thank you." Meaning, if Dr. SALLI wanted to come down regardless she very well may. Mordin would see no issue and the salarian was already in Miss Stevens' room.

From the looks of things they were not good, and Mordin shook his head in great disapproval as he inspected the girl's wounds. "Decent amount of blood loss, moderate to severe lacerations, torn dermis; conclusion." The doctor took a deep breath with his eyes closed before speaking again. "Combat; most likely spar. Larger individual wore similar wounds. Miss Stevens you of all people." It was like seeing Krogan in their battle practices all over again, and the doctor had no choice but to begin disinfecting every wound that he saw.

Taking the cleaning solutions and stitching utensils, Mordin got to work first setting up a station before getting a clean IV drip. Miss Stevens was most likely dehydrated and weak, so she would need prompt medical attention if they hoped to avoid losing her.

It was just going to be one of those days.

It was good to see that the response was fast, but Rasa'Jeqkogomee kept his mandibles curled in disgust. A human doctor? A warrior's pride was a terrible thing to barter with. He would sooner bleed out from combat for honor than to let a human touch him.

But human or not he followed this doctor towards several rooms with the Tally upon his shoulders. Things only became more confusing when yet another doctor arrived, this one... an odd thing with a sickly frame and black, bulbous eyes. Rasa'Jeqkogomee kept his mouth shut and said not a word as he was directed to deposit the Tally first then to find his own room.

The blatant white sterility was more than enough to get the warrior to feel disgust creep into the back of his throat, and the alien silently sat upon the bed that was now his. It was quiet, strange. All he heard were the foreign sounds of machinery and his amber eyes scrolled themselves upon everything with immaculate detail. Perhaps, if he were so bold, he could find things to patch himself with and skip the doctor entirely. Whatever it was, it was no human but to still be touched by one who touched the blood of others was filthy and lowly.

Rasa'Jeqkogomee curled his mandibles again and felt his temper rise. Only what was necessary, he told himself. Only what was necessary.

Tally's eye's rolled in her head as she was deposited onto the medical bed. Shapes, colors, and voices were blending together. A larger blue rectangle was moving out of her vision now, Rasa? She didn't know many other large blue rectangle shaped people.

And now someone new was close by. He was like red and white lines. Veeeeeeeeery skinny and kinda scaly, like a lizard.

Strange lizard man..how do you know my name? She asked, did they know eachother? She was having a hard time remembering Tally hissed as the IV entered her arm.

Careful..arms are broken. Somethings wrong with my knee too...where's rasa? I didn't kill him did I, of course I didn't kill him he was that blue rectangle...crap am I rambling? Deciding that she was Tally gritted her teeth and kept quiet, her entire body felt like it had been hit by a truck and then backed up over.

Tilting her head up she glimpsed Mordin sewing her back up. Talk about bizarre.

Good, Miss Stevens was coming to, but strange lizard man? Gross assumption. Mordin shook his head and finished setting up the IV for the patient before finding it suitable to reply.

"Miss Stevens. I know your name. In records. You have a reputation. Like to fight. Only logical you'd end up here." The doctor had a stranger way of speaking than most, something concise and in a relevant string, but that hardly bothered him. He simply listened to her rambling and roved those interesting eyes of his, letting the lighting having them appear glossy and smooth. "Yes, both arms broken. Great force involved. Knee is also broken. More great force involved. Rasa?" He didn't pause as he inquired about the name, but a second later he already knew the answer. "Rasa also wounded. Badly, but not as badly. Will live. Both of you. Now, please be still. Must finish." Mordin worked calmly with his hands, the salarian keeping a good eye on Tally's heart rate and other bodily readings while attending her wounds. The IV drip would keep her hydrated and there were also some painkillers in the solution. At best it would keep her pain to a low, dull ache and as for her arms? Well, he'd have to get technicians for that, or... He could do it himself.

After finishing getting every single on of her open wounds and properly dressing them with antibiotics padding and gauze, he paused to study his work upon the girl's broken body and nodded. "Good. Lacerations all cleaned up and closed. Chances of severe infection are low. Amputation also low. Very good. Amputations messy." Not that he wanted to scare Miss Stevens, but it was one of his concerns.

Entirely, the operation had taken about, oh, a good thirty to forty-five minutes and since Mordin was only one, it was good work but slow work. In any event, it was time to study her broken arms and knee and to do that, he needed some x-rays. Right. "Please hold still. X-rays are delicate. Need to be precise." Holding up his omni-tool Mordin scanned it over her body and collected the readings he required. They would need to be analyzed and finely tuned, but he could do that. In the meanwhile, he glanced back down at the girl and mumbled something. "Will be back. Must check this Rasa. Must close wounds so that amputation is avoided. X-rays should be up by then. Rest." He sent the digital files to the radiology department and quickly exited Miss Steven's room to enter into the room next.

Let's see if Mordin's second patient was up to any shenanigans while he was away. Mordin entered the room abruptly and spotted his patient. "Ah, Rasa. Yes. Bad shape as well. Will need to address your wounds. Hold still, please."

Rinsing and repeating, Mordin brought out another IV station and had to pause before he could begin. Right. Almost forgot. "Any known allergies and reactions to medications? Alien physiology. Not sure. Would you mind a scan?" It was pointless to say that Mordin had never seen this type of alien before.

By being left alone for so long Rasa'Jeqkogomee had fallen to his own devices.

Rather than wait for a doctor to arrive and touch him with those lowly hands, the proud warrior was already rummaging around the room noisily and foraging around for anything he could find. When he could not, the alien flared his mandibles and had become tempted to lay this room into despair and ruin. "Arrrrgh, useless place!" The soldier snapped his head around, aggravated. There was nothing useful in this room, was there!?

Thinking he would have no choice but to interact with a doctor, Rasa'Jeqkogomee snarled to himself and stomped back to the bed. He sat it in grumpily and stooped forward so that his entire weight would not be pressed upon it. Something told him that if he lingered, it would break and then he would be without comfortable seating arrangement! He sat, and he sat. And he sat, and he sat. And then finally... something entered the room and the warrior felt his proud blood boil.

The doctor... The sickly, thin doctor. Rasa'Jeqkogomee eyed the creature with contempt, his eyes intense, and he watched this thing bring about strange and foreign instruments of recovery. What was that liquid pouch? Where did the needle go? Yes, the alien was bothered and when asked a question he growled a response.

"I know not of your strange tonics and medicine. Just do what you must, and leave me be. I will speak no more."

Yes, that was a fitting reply. However, Rasa'Jeqkogomee's stubbornness would most likely play into the doctor's hands. He didn't seem to refuse the scan and thought it necessary for treatment!

No refusal of scan? Good. Terrible attitude? Bad.

Mordin didn't bother with the pleasantries at this rate and he brought up his omni-tool to scan the unknown alien being that was before him. Hmm, scans came back as unidentified in his database, but... that was not surprising given the inhabitants of this world. Mordin took in a breath and tried his best. Now, to see the what the scans... oh. Two hearts, normal vascular system, lungs, stomach, liver, hemoglobin in blood? Yes, very much like human but two hearts? Strange. Powerful alien. Wouldn't be too difficult, then.

Since he was told to speak no more, Mordin shrugged and brought the IV station closer. With clean hands he sterilized a good sight for injection, and in a snap and a pop the alien received a good dosage of liquid pain killer. As well as something to help dehydration, too. Now for the wounds... Not as bad as Miss Steven's, but they were still pretty... gory. Again, Mordin shook his head at the sight and did his best. Some antiseptic, sterilized cloth, dissolving stitches, and gauze. Lots and lots of gauze. Ooh, such pretty blood! Indigo!

Guess Mordin was going to take another half hour in silence with this one...

Good. The doctor was swift, capable. Rasa'Jeqkogomee growled when the needle was insert through his skin and into a vein, but that was all the warrior betrayed. The stinging of the strange and foul smelling tonic caused his mandibles to curl in disgust, however. Tonic, clothing, more stinging from the needle.

This took too long. Half an hour. Rasa'Jeqkogomee was starting to grow impatient and the longer he stayed in this sterile world the faster he wanted out of it.

"How quickly can you finish, doctor." The soldier would be respectful enough to be properly healed, but that was all. He would waste no unncessary speech here. "I wish to leave as soon as you are finished. I do not want to stay a night, is this understood?"

    It had better be understood.

Back in her own room, suffering from loss of blood and being slowly filled with the ambrosia like substance that was ever so slowly dripping from the IV, tally was having a ball. The pain had thankfully numbed away and now her arms felt pleasantly dead and warm. Her company had also greatly improved.

Zurg himself was currently sitting over in the far corner, sucking down ramen noodles from a bowl that was shaped much like nanthax's head. He seemed to be arguing with another shirtless man, who's oiled muscles gleamed in the hospital lights. Tally gurgled some nonsense in their direction but found that other than the most basic of guttural noise she really didn't have much energy to do anything else.

Zurg and the oiled man didn't seem to pay that much mind to her either. Instead they talked to one another, though now their arguing seemed more like flirtation. Lawrence sat in the corner crying for some odd reason, more peculiar than how the robot was able to cry, was the fact that he was holding a bowl of cereal. Frosted flakes if Tally's eye's weren't fucked up enough that she couldn't tell the difference anymore. Dani attempted to comfort poor lawrence by walking about on the ceiling, but if anything it made the poor robot cry into his cereal even more.

The quite suddenly and out of no where Jo burst through the wall with her jet pack and began firing neon purple lazers from her eyes. The beams struck everyone in the room, beside tally herself, and transformed them into jello. Though the change didn't seem to phase them much as they continued to do exactly what they had been doing the whole time.

At least up until the point that they started cannibalizing eachother. Lawrence was the last jello man standing. Victorious he burst into tears again and huddled up in the corner. Pleased with her work Jo turned and flew out the hole she had made.

Someone had obviously forgotten to tell Mordin that Tally was a lightweight when it came to just about anything that could alter one's state of mind.

Oh, terrific. Mordin glanced up with a slight knitting of his brow, and the salarian stood firm. "A threat. Childish. Security forces strong here. A fight would not go well. You would lose. Ergo, you stay the night. End of discussion." Just because the salarian had a thin frame did not mean he could be bossed around. That stated, he went towards his temporary station and came back to finish dressing the larger alien's wounds. "One night. Good for recovery. Won't kill you." He remarked before taking a step back and noticing his work. "Almost as good as new." Mordin also added shamelessly.

Finished and everything to his liking, Mordin abruptly walked out and locked the door in case the alien thought he could escape. Not on his watch, pal.

And not a moment he had done so Mordin chuckled to himself and went to go oversee Miss Stevens. "Big baby."

....What? The doctor would dare to keep Rasa'Jeqkogomee inside this miserable, sterile room? At once the alien displayed great displeasure and his mandibles unfurled back into the customary expression of anger. "I will not stay a night here, worthless creature! You cannot make me!" But even as the soldier spat and defied to the best of his ability, the strange doctor creature would not have it. In fact, the warrior heard the unmistakeable sound of a door locking.

To have the door slammed on him, so to speak, was absolutely unacceptable. The worst part was that Rasa'Jeqkogomee could do absolutely nothing. He was not a fool. The security outside would easily soften him up. So... he was trapped in here, and for one night.

"Rrrrrrgh..." Unable to contain his bitterness at the situation entirely, he inspected himself and saw that the work was good. No longer did blood pour over his body and the dull ache in his limbs had subsided. His head was heavy, however. Perhaps sleep was necessary, and as much as his pride hated to admit the doctor was right. One night would not kill him. Finding the thinking satisfactory, Rasa'Jeqkoogmee fell onto his back and laid there. A human bed design. Quite strange, but not unpleasant. The sheets would not be needed, however.

Pleased that the room was safe, the alien closed his eyes and mumbled one last thing. "Well played."

He'll be out of here soon enough.

Oh someone new was in here now, who could it be? Looking over from where she laid on the bed tally faintly recognized the red and white blob in front of her.

Doc! How nice of you to come back! How do you get people to stick on your walls here? Poor lawrence is crying in the corner too, poor guy. You should give him some hospital applesauce or something. Tally snickered a little like she had just made a very funny joke.

Then in a bit more sobered tone she asked Mordin a new question. How soon can I go home? My arms, they gotta be fixed but I left poison on the stove, it might go bad. Or lenny might eat it if he gets hungry....of course he'll just become a mutant cat then....Nothing could kill that cat. Tally mumbled a bit to herself at the end of the sentence, her head rolling to the side a bit as she did. Were the drugs making her sleepy? Dammit that wouldn't do at all, first because someone needed to get lawrence his applesauce. Second because she needed to get her swords fixed, those were her first blades dammit, they meant a lot to her.

"Hm, delirium. Side effect of medicine." Mordin paid little attention to Miss Steven's incoherent rambling and he walked around her bed, checking her vitals and making sure everything was all right. As expected, her body was starting to recover and now all she needed was the time to heal. Very good. "You will need to heal up in here for about three days, Miss Stevens. Your wounds are great, and you require proper rejuvenation. Shall I contact anyone for you to let them know of your status?"

Three days would be a good estimate for the girl. With all the blood she had lost and her torn musculature, it was the least she could do to heal herself. As for the bigger alien in the other room? Mordin doubted the huge fellow would wait more than a day's time.

Hopefully Miss Stevens would be more rational than that.
