    Washu Hakubi (Tenchi Muyo! OVA)

    --PROFILE--

    Name: Professor Washu Hakubi

Age: 20,000 years at the very least, child form looks 12, adult form looks 30

    Species: Appears to be human/Juraian

Appearance: Generally appears as a adolescent girl with almost catlike green eyes, and long pink hair in an updo styled to partially resemble a crab, and dressed in the uniform of the Galaxy Academy. Washu also has an adult form, but she rarely if ever appears in this fashion. She also has a third goddess form, but she essentially looks the same as the adult her, and is wearing a much more elaborate dress.

Personality: Washu has quite an ego on her, calling herself the greatest scientist in the universe. (Yes, she'd be right, but bragging about it isn't the nicest thing ever) However, despite said ego and her aloofness, she can actually be pretty down to earth, her attachment to science making her more of a realist. It is very difficult indeed to fool her, and she's one of the rare genius types that aren't really all that ditzy. She also has a somewhat hidden motherly side, as demonstrated when she took command of taking care of Tenchi's baby nephew Taro after the little guy ran the other housemates ragged.

Background:Washu, in actuality, is one of the three goddesses who created the universe, along with her sisters Tsunami and Tokimi. In order to solve the riddle of bringing forth someone more powerful than them, Washu chose to remove her memory and seal her godly powers into three gemstones, becoming mortal in order to analyze the mysteries of the universe.

It was revealed that at some point, an amnesiac Washu somehow wound up in a monastery with only the three gems in her possession.

Sometime during her lifetime, she entered Royal Space Academy (now known as the Galaxy Academy) and became the greatest scientist in the universe, being recognized as Professor Washu. Before becoming the greatest scientist, she married a man named Mikumo Kuramitsu whom she met at the Academy and subsequently gave birth to his child. However, because the father came from the prestigious Kuramitsu family, as a result of Washu's "lower status," both he and the baby were taken away. Out of grief, Washu chose never to deal with these adult issues again and altered her body to have the appearance of an adolescent girl, although she is able to return to her adult form if she wishes to. For this reason, she prefers to be referred to as "Little Washu" (Washu-chan), often in attempt for people to convince her to do favors for them.

After losing her child, she created a powerful being named Ryoko using a universal creature known as Mass and her own ovum, therefore effectively making her Ryoko's mother. Ryoko was created to be an entity capable of wielding the power of the three mysterious gems. Washu was partnered with her Galaxy Academy student, Kagato, who assisted her in creating Ryoko as well as her living ship, Ryo-Ohki, as vessels capable of harnessing the gems' true power. A while later, Washu was locked away by her assistant, Kagato, for 5,000 years inside the alternate dimension inside her own battleship, Soja. Kagato claimed all of Washu's creations as his own and brainwashed Ryoko and Ryo-Ohki into serving him. Washu remained sealed away until she was inadvertently freed by Mihoshi during Tenchi Masaki's battle with Kagato.

After Kagato's defeat at the hands of Tenchi, Washu took an immediate interest in the innately powerful boy and declared her desire to claim him for her own. Washu then moved into the Masaki house, creating an alternate reality inside their closet and hosting her laboratory there. Since then she made Tenchi her love and research project, the latter much to the boy's chagrin, while the former was expressed in her offer to only have another baby if it belonged to him. Tenchi becomes the only being that Washu respects, as she wouldn't dare to keep anything from Tenchi and would risk her life for him, similar to the other girls.

Skills and Abilities:Anything to do with science, Washu will have probably studied at one point or another, though she specializes in very high level stuff like starship building and artificial lifeform design, as well as quantum mechanics involving higher dimensions. She has some domestic skills, but would rather leave cooking and all of that to others as she sees her research as more important.

As for battle skills, Washu has much the same powers as her daughter Ryoko: flight, teleportation, phasing through objects, duplicating herself and the ability to summon an energy blade or throw energy blasts. She would prefer to use technology as opposed to her own abilities to fight, however, but she'll use them if she has to. For a dodge, one of her favorite things to do is teleport out of reach and leave a doll that looks like her in her place.

Weaknesses: Washu will oftentimes let her ego get in the way of the big picture, and while she has the same abilities as Ryoko, she only toys with them as opposed to honing her skills. Also, when running her experiments, if the subjects are sentient sometimes she has a hard time remembering that, just going on with testing despite rather loud protests.

World: Washu comes from a universe where the Jurai have a galaxy spanning empire, and enforce their rule with the powers granted by their patron goddess Tsunami. This is a universe where people with strange powers and huge and powerful starships are commonplace, however Earth is blissfully unaware of all the things going on outside Sol System's borders. It's a protectorate of Jurai in fact, where numerous members of it's royal family have homes.

The Galaxy Police tries to keep the peace, though they're often quite inadequate when it comes to dealing with certain threats capable of destroying whole planets.

Other: This is the Washu from the OVAs, taken from after the third one so she's at least partially aware of her true nature, and remembers that Tsunami and Tokimi are her sisters.

    Group(s): Aliens, maybe Immortals?

    —PRESENTATION--

All in all, it seemed to be a fairly normal morning in the Masaki household: Sasami made breakfast, thankfully without the usual squabbles between Aeka and Ryoko, Tenchi and Katsuhito were tending the shrine, and Washu was in her lab, once again going over some scan results she'd taken from Tenchi a few days before. The scientist ate her breakfast as she typed into her holographic console, inwardly thankful the little blue-haired princess would always bring meals to her when she was working, otherwise she might forget to eat.

“Now let's see here, there's still nothing on these scans that says Tenchi should be as powerful as he is. I might not get it yet, but I will, it's only a matter of--”

Suddenly Washu heard the door leading into the lab's subspace appear, then the familiar chime of the crab-shaped bell attached to said door. In the next second, a certain little ball of brown fluff came sprinting in, meowing frantically, almost panicked sounding. “Ryo-Ohki, what is it? What's going on out there?”

“Miyaaaaa-mrow!” No, the cabbit certainly wasn't the best with words, and the only way Washu could really tell what was going on in Ryo-Ohki's head was by hooking her up to one of the lab's machines. She didn't have to this time, though, as seconds later half the alarms in the lab went off, and the genius scientist turned back to her console.

“What in the-- a high level dimension reaction?” Washu typed frantically, trying to get the lab's barriers up but to no avail. Her intuition told her this wasn't Tokimi; besides that, after the Z thing, Tokimi was once again an ally. No, this was something else, and potentially more powerful as well. Nothing Washu did seemed to have any effect, very few of the lab's systems responding as whatever was going on outside slowly swept up the shrine, as well as the subspace the lab was contained in. All of a sudden, there was a huge flash of blue light, and then Washu knew no more.

Washu awoke to the feeling of Ryo-ohki rubbing against her face, trying to wake her up. She sat up with a groan, at some point she must have fallen from the floating futon she usually kept in front of her console. “I'm all right, Ryo-Ohki, and it looks like you are too . . . now let's see what happened.” Calling up the laptop-like hologram again, the scientist cleared the various alarms and made a curious discovery. All of her links to the Jurai, Galaxy Police and Galaxy Academy networks were offline, and no amount of poking at those connections would bring them back up. Getting a bit worried, she started a search for any available networks . . . the only one she could find was one called the Extranet, and so she linked the lab's systems up to it. Again, data flowed, but her computers started alerting her to information that she didn't have recorded. Worlds she never heard of, languages that had never appeared on any world she'd been on, and mentions of a Portal Breach.

At this point, Ryo-Ohki had climbed onto Washu's head, and looked at the console askance for a moment.”Miiiya?”

“Yes, I know, this is most unusual.” Washu reached up and gave the cabbit a few scratches to reassure her. “I can sense Ryoko is still alive, but very far from us . . . it's almost as if we've been transported to another universe. Well, there's only one way to find out for sure; we're going outside!”

The pink-haired scientist took a breath, then summoned the exit to her lab, the door reappearing in front of her. Then Washu boldly opened the door, peering outside onto what appeared to be a sidewalk. Considering she was still sort of expecting it to open into a house, this was something of a surprise. She noticed a few people walking on the other side of the street, none of which were species she knew of. “Oh my, we really ARE in another universe!” She started to get a bit of a smirk, her mind already thinking of new experiments to run. “Can you imagine the research possibilities that could be here, Ryo-Ohki? We can try to find the others later; if Ryoko's still alive then the rest of them are. Right now, I want to go exploring...”

And so, the greatest scientist in the universe (well, at least in her own anyway) took her first steps into Portal City, her faithful cabbit still on her head.
