A Cure for what Ails you. (Tag: Olabisi, Any available Hospital Staff)

Frank opened the front door ahead of him. "Ladies first." he said with a slight bow, letting Ola go before him. He had to admit, it wasn't for entirely chivalrous reasons: he was a bit nervous about this place. The sheer number of patients being treated worried him. Just how long would it take for them to get to him? And for that matter, just how much could they do for him? If they didn't have something to keep the parasite at bay... If that's the case, we'll get there when we get there. Frank instructed himself. Until then, never assume the worst. Who knows? Maybe they'll be able to actually cure you? he thought.

Walking up to the front desk, Frank glanced around. It didn't look too different from any other hospital he'd seen, the most major difference was the patients as near as he could figure. To his right, he found a waiting area, for which he was thankful. Least I can sit if we have to wait for the crowd to thin out. he thought to himself. Looking at the glass table in the waiting area's center, he noticed the magazines strewn about it. Not a single one looked familiar. Names like Out of this World! Travel Magazine and Extra-Terrestrial Fashions! Jumped out at him in shades of Green and Pink. Definitely gonna take some getting used to. he thought to himself once more. Walking up to the check-in counter, Frank leaned in to speak with the receptionist. "Uh, Hello there, my name is Frank West." he began. "I was wondering if you had any specialists in parasitic infections. If so, could I see them? It's rather urgent."

"Ha, and humans seem to think that chivalry is dead," Ola quipped as she walked through the door. She browsed through the available magazines in the waiting room, eventually settling on a copy of Extra-Terrestrial Fashions! She took a seat on one of the chairs and flipped through the pages.

Rings are in, huh? Most would think otherwise, but if you say so...

Her skimming was interrupted as she heard Frank mention a parasitic infection. Parasites, he has parasites? She shook her head, deciding not to pursue it. That's his business, and she wouldn't feel right getting involved.

Behind the counter was a very mousy young woman, with brown hair and eyes and a large pair of glasses. The past year or two had proven to be quite calm for the hospital! There were still the influx of patients, and the world definitely ended a few times from the looks of the shields that had gone up over the city a couple of times. However, when compared to a certain event, where people were fueled by their worst impulses, it was definitely welcome. Many people had rushed into the hospital, there had been a fight that had taken down most of the officers at the time...and then there was the lizard. A red one that had been dragged inside that ended up being flung onto the receptionist's face! She could still feel those little claws digging...

She sunk her face deeper into her paperwork, though it seemed that was an un-needed distraction. Two individuals made their way inside, one a man in sunglasses and the other a...walking, talking mummy. The receptionist stared as the mummy sat and picked up a magazine, and after a few moments of peace, the woman directed her attention to the man who approached instead. "Well, we don't have any experts exactly but I'm sure Dr. SALLI can hel-"

"Did that guy say he had PARASITES?!"

The receptionist jolted at the sudden yell and gave the owner of the voice a glare, a young man who was walking towards them with a clipboard in his hands. "Yes. I was about to do my job and direct him towards Dr. SAL-" Again the woman was cut off and again she winced and glared.

"Well, how about I do my job and take care of that? Salli just got done with someone anyway!" With a bright grin, the man turned to Frank. "Come with me and we can get down to business with your parasites." The man quickly pulled away to give Frank an intense stare, looking him up and down as if he could see the parasite. "Its not tapeworms, is it? I got those once and I told myself, never again!"

Frank rolled his eyes slightly at the young man's demeanor. Great. Just great. Figures I'd get the intern. he thought dourly. "No, I'm afraid it's a bit more serious than that, kid." Frank began. "Y'see, uh..." he motioned for the nurse to come in a bit closer, "About...8 years ago now, I think, I was caught in the middle of a major zombie outbreak in my world." he whipsered. "I managed to get out of it, but not without getting infected. Me and a fellow survivor managed to put together something to suppress the growth of the parasite that causes the zombification process, and that managed to last me until a commercialized version of it became available to the public...for a price." he went on.

"For the past 8 years, I've had to take a dose of the stuff every day between 7 and 8 AM to keep myself from finally turning." Frank explained. "Now, I took my day's dose before I arrived in this...place." he said, glancing around briefly. "But, problem is, I didn't bring any more doses with me. I was hoping you could either eliminate the parasite entirely, or at least whip something up to replace the medicine I was taking."

Remembering the empty carton he often carried around, Frank dug around in his suit's pockets before presenting it to the young nurse. "Here, maybe this'll help. It should have the ingredients on it somewhere." he said, pointing to the back of the container. "Oh, and if we go the removal route, I believe the parasite is nested in my head, maybe somewhere around the base of the neck? I'm not quite sure." he finished, motioning a finger toward the aforementioned area.

Bit more serious than a tapeworm? Curious but cautious, Nurse Floyd leaned in to hear Frank. Though the second the 'Z' word came out of his mouth, the nurse jerked back and grabbed for the cross around his neck. Wait, crosses don't work on zombies! Still gripping it tightly, he narrowed his eyes as Frank went on. "Infected, huh?" He whispered back harshly. Was this man trying to get another zombie outbreak going on around here?! "Wait...huh?!" The nurse was quite confused, zombification was caused by a parasite?

The major problem here was that this guy either needed his parasite taken out or make a new version of his...medicine parasite thing. The nurse took the container and blinked down at it, looking back up at the possible zombie. "I don't think we can take it out, man. We had these people here once, the guy got bit by a werewolf and we couldn't do anything. Usually death here can refresh you back to normal but since you had that zombie in your home place...thing, you'd just refresh with it in you all over again. And uh...I don't know, maybe if we knew about this type of thing more, we'd just pull it out. I think..." The nurse pursed his lips and looked down at the container.

"I think we're gonna have to work and make you some sorta...medicine like you had in your world. We can make you a batch and you can get it refilled here when you start running out." Like normal medicine! Except, you know, with zombies. The nurse opened a room and gestured for Frank to enter. "You wait here, I'll get the doctor and we can work this out!" This was gonna be interesting.

Frank could tell he was adapting to his new home quickly; the mention of a werewolf not phasing him in the slightest. Although he did wilt a bit when the first option the young nurse thought of was simply a replacement medicine. Ah well, you said yourself not to get your hopes up. he reminded himself. Walking into the room, Frank turned around to address the nurse one last time before he left. "Alright, you just make sure to let 'the doctor' know that he's got about..." Frank glanced at his watch briefly. "13 hours before I turn." he finished

Frank sat down in one of the room’s chairs. Not the comfiest seat he’d ever found himself in, but not outright painful on him either. As he fidgeted about getting comfortable, Frank glanced around the doctor’s office. Unlike what he’d seen of the hospital so far, here he found some more marked differences. Although the basic layout was like any Doctor’s office he’d ever been in, the equipment seemed much more extensive.

Several meters and gauges branched off of the examination table, measuring in units he didn’t recognize. Posters on the wall gave information on organs he’d never seen before, as well as anatomical charts for several different strange, humanoid creatures. He thought he’d found a chart for a regular human being at one point, but then he noticed the second heart it depicted in the creature’s chest.

He sat for a moment, taking it all in as best he could. He’d been doing a lot of that since his arrival in the Breach. May as well try to memorize some of this stuff. He thought. You never know when you might find yourself cornered by some Little Green Men in a back alley.

His thoughts were interrupted by the sound of the door opening.

"13 hours, got it!" Not an especially long amount of time for them to whip something up, but surely they could handle it. With a quick salute to Frank, the nurse disappeared down the hall, shoes skidding as he came to a stop in front of the waiting room. He flung the door open and found Dr. SALLI immediately, standing over by the wall and having herself a quick recharge. "Salli! Salli! Wake up! Its an emergency!" He shook her frantically, the metal body of the fembot unresponsive for a few moments before her optics flickered and light up with a blue glow, other parts of her body lighting up as well.

"Huh...? Nurse Floyd?" Her optics shuttered again as the human let her go. "What's wrong, what's the emergency?"

"We only have 13 hours until this one guy turns into a zombie!"

"..." The Doctor gave him a flat look. "Only?"

"Oh yeah, sure, you say that now...but the only way we can prevent him is this!" The nurse shoved the carton into Dr. SALLI's hands. "He says this stuff keeps him from becoming a zombie, so long as he takes it once a day! We gotta make some more of it!"

Dr. SALLI read over the ingredients, optics furrowing slightly. "Hmm...take me to this man." Replicating the formula should be easy enough with the ingredients, but she'd need a bit more information. Nodding, the nurse grabbed the fembot by the hand, ignoring the flustered look she gave him, and lead her to the room. The door opening, Dr. SALLI and Nurse Floyd walking inside. SALLI's optics studied the man, who looked quite well for someone who was apparently a zombie. "Hello, sir. I'm Dr. SALLI. I believe I can replicate this, but I need to know a few more things about it." She held the carton up. "For instance, did you receive this medication in pill form, or injection, or any other form? Are there any special, noteworthy ingredients or processes that are used to make this?"

Frank started a bit when he saw the doctor; he hadn't been expecting a robot. Then again, he thought. She--it's probably one of the least weird things you've seen today. "Uh, hi SALLI. Name's Frank West." he said, still a bit flustered. Returning to the matter at hand, he quickly gathered his thoughts. "It was an injection, capped, like an over-the-counter deal." he began. "The ingredients are the real issue. See, as our mutual friend here may or may not have mentioned," he said, gesturing towards Floyd. "The Zombification process was caused by a parasite in my world, a sort of giant bee, everyone I met who worked with 'em hands on called 'em 'Queens'." Frank went on.

"They were undiscovered prior to the research that led to the first outbreak, and as such, I'm guessing they're unique to my world." he continued. "That's where the problem comes in. See, one of, if not the key ingredient in Zombrex was a hormone extracted from the parasite itself." Frank walked over to one of the counters, leaning on it slightly as he put a hand up. "Now before ya get any ideas about getting it from the parasite that's in me, let me make something clear: waaay back when I first got infected, the very first suppressant we made to halt the spread of the infection in my system? I had to track down ten of the little bastards for that." he said, pointing a finger at the carton in the doctor's hands. "Granted, that one lasted exponentially longer than the stuff you've got for reference, but if we're looking to get me a steady supply..." Frank trailed off and sighed deeply.

"Basically? Whether we try and remove the thing altogether or not, you're gonna need to get at the little sucker one way or the other." he concluded, rubbing at the base of his neck.

The man seemed surprised to see her at first, and it took Dr. SALLI a few moments to realize why. Sometimes she forgot that most people likely weren't used to robots, let alone a robotic doctor. The man shook off the surprise easily though, and introduced himself as Frank West, a name that she swiftly scribbled onto her clipboard. She took a few notes as he went on, namely the detail about his medication being a capped injection. She figured the ingredients would be tricky...her optics glanced to Floyd for a moment before flicking back to Frank as he went on to describe that his zombie virus was caused by a parasite. A giant bee, of all things! "No, he did not mention that."

    "Well, it didn't come up!"

She gave the nurse an exasperated look that seemed to quiet him down, before turning to Frank again. The key ingredient in Zombrex had to be extracted from one of these creatures, something she definitely knew they did not have here in the Breach. "Oh dear..." This just got a lot more complicated. Even moreso since the parasite inside of him would not be enough for a viable medicine. "Hmm..." She hummed thoughtfully to herself, tapping the pen in thought.

"Oh great! Another zombie apocalypse!" Floyd ran his fingers through his dark hair. "I'm not gonna last very long! Unless they're the slow, lumbering type of zombies from the movies, in that case I can outrun them. But otherwise, I'm too delicious for zombies to resist! I'm gonna be eaten up real quick!"

"Floyd." The young man looked up into Dr. SALLI's blue optics as she smiled at him, one hand on his shoulder. "I won't let you get eaten." The nurse chuckled a thanks, flustered and blushing like a school girl which made the robot smirk slightly. Her professional air came back as she turned back to Frank, a determined look in her optics. "It sounds like we're going to have to schedule you for surgery, then. Remove that parasite. Are you sure removing it will keep you from being a zombie, though? And will the parasite fight back when we try to remove it?" Because if so, Dr. SALLI was going to need to supply herself well for a possibly hostile creature zipping out of a man's neck.

Frank rolled his eyes at Floyd's outburst. He was about to tell him that, luckily for him, the zombies where he was from were the slow, shambling type, but was interrupted as SALLI intervened. He couldn't help but wonder what exactly their relationship was as the young nurse blushed furiously. A flicker of a smile tugged at the edge of his mouth.

His attention quickly returned to the Doctor when she brought up surgery.

"Look, I've been carrying this little bastard around in my skull for nearly a decade." Frank began. "If there were somethin' else that could turn me, it woulda done it by now." he concluded, smirking slightly. "As for the kinda trouble it'll cause once we get it out..." he sighed, straightening up and looking the Doctor in the eye. "I think if you act quick, we might catch the thing with it's pants down. It should still be under the effect of the last dose I took, so it'll definitely be a little out of sorts." he explained. "Not that I don't think you should exercise caution of course! We are still gonna be yanking it out of the nice little bath it's been taking in my bloodstream."

Frank broke his gaze with Dr. SALLI as he paced about a bit. "So, uh...how soon can we get this done, exactly? We are kinda on a time limit, here." he asked anxiously.

((I'm so sorry this took so long, I had two exams this week. However, they were also my finals so I'm out for summer now! I'll try to be speeder in posting for you now!))

"A decade..." The robotic Doctor echoed, aghast. This man had been dealing with this...zombie parasite for 10 straight years? That had to be absolutely terrible. To live everyday knowing that if he made one mistake, he'd become a zombie. It sounded absolutely horrible. "You make a good point." She admitted with a nod. Yes, she supposed; if he had this for ten years, he'd know of more solutions by now. As it was, they had either medication, or surgery to remove the parasite. "Well, it is better to plan for the long term solution rather than the short. We'll be playing a gamble with the medicine. If we can take that thing out forever...it'd take care of all of our problems."

Frank and Dr. SALLI made contact, eye to optic, as he explained the parasite. It may still be out of it due to the medicine, but it could still be a problem. Caution would be needed. Perhaps if she kept a scalpel handy, or a syringe of sedatives. She could stick it the moment she found it! Hopefully after removing it from Frank's neck, they could kill it or at least contain it. "Is there any chance, any chance at all, that removing this may lead to your death? If it may, we have nanobots that could repair your body before it can die, but I'm just trying to keep the possibility in mind that you may get hurt from this." How soon? "Pretty soon actually. We can do this today. Nurse Floyd? Please go and find an empty operation room, get it prepared."

The Nurse saluted and disappeared out of the room, Dr. SALLI turning to Frank. "This will be impromptu, but I will do my best to release you from this parasite. Lie back on the bed, please. I'll put you under and roll you to the operating room. Hopefully when you wake up, we'll have removed this."

((Ah, it's okay. I've had other stuff to do in the meantime. Hope your exams went well!))

Frank was caught off guard by the Doctor's reaction to his comment about the longevity of his illness. He hadn't expected such emotion from a robot. Guess I better check any prejudices I had about that at the door. He had to keep his excitement in check as SALLI agreed with his points on the removal. Could he finally be rid of this burden? Of course, there was still the fatality of the matter to discuss. Nanobots? Damn, they really are packing some advanced tech here. he thought. "I wouldn't entirely rule it out." he began "From what I remember it's nestled up close to my brain. Little bastard tries to latch onto the stem when it's up and about." he said, pursing his lips.

Frank was glad to hear it could be done more or less ASAP. He wouldn't have it any other way. Once again he found himself ever so slightly amused by this 'Floyd's' demeanor. How on Earth did a kid like him end up in medicine? he wondered. Once again enjoying the Mechanical Medical Practitioner's bedside manner, he complied and lay back on the operating table. He was about to simply close his eyes and wait for the anesthesia, but something came to mind. "Hey, uh...before we do this, Doc. Can you promise me something?" he asked a bit meekly. "Once you get this thing outta me, promise me you'll destroy it." he said, conviction entering his tone. "No good can come from keeping it alive. It was people trying to research it's potential that started this whole thing in the first place." he went on, reliving some of the events at Willamette in his mind. "I won't be responsible for that happening again, here, and neither should you." he finished, looking the Doctor in the eye.

((Oh, they did, thank you! Got good grades on both.))

It was close to his brain, too? Yeesh...it was going to be hard to get it out if it was too close, but as she said, she'd keep those nanobots on hand. Not that she exactly wanted to shop his brain up in surgery, but just in case something happened, they'd have an out. "Understood. That definitely makes me want to get that out rather than keep it in and sedated with medicine..." Typically, having anything in your brain was a bad situation. Even a little extra brain fluid in the brain could cause problems, but an entire parasite?

As Nurse Floyd left to prep a room and get it ready, and Frank sat back onto the bed, Dr. SALLI turned her back to him to ready a dose of anesthesia. She wasn't sure how long it would take to open his neck up and dig out the parasite, but she figured an hour's worth of a dose might be a good idea to start with. A syringe was prepared, the robot turning around to face Frank once again when he spoke up. He wanted her to promise him something? "Anything, Mr. West."

Frank insisted that once it was removed, the parasite be destroyed. She listened to him as he plead his case. Once he had finished, she matched his look. "You know more about these things than I do. And if you say it is too dangerous to keep alive, than I will follow through with your request. I promise; when I remove the parasite from you, I will destroy it. Neither of us will be responsible for a zombie outbreak, here." She followed her promise up with a gentle smile to the man.

Frank felt his muscles relax as the Doctor quickly agreed to honor his wishes. For a moment he even thought he saw a smile cross her rigid, metallic features. He let his head fall back onto the table, letting out a contented sigh. Finally someone listens to me. he thought. "Thanks, Doc." he said, closing his eyes. "Hit me with your best shot; time to go to my happy place." he said, resting his hands on his stomach. He fidgeted a bit, getting himself comfortable. He smiled as a thought occurred to him. When next I wake up, this whole zombie thing may well be behind me.

"You're welcome, Mr. West." The Doctor smiled as the patient relaxed, preparing the anesthesia to be administered through an intravenous line. Hooking the general anesthesia up, she approached Frank's side and swabbed his forearm with a cotton ball soaked in alcohol. "Just relax. When you wake up, we ought to have that thing destroyed and taken care of." After a few moments, giving him a chance to object if he felt the need to, she injected him and dripped the anesthesia into his body. "If you can hear me, Mr. West, I need for you to count backwards from ten for me." She stayed by his side, waiting for the patient to drift into unconsciousness.

The Nurse returned, nearly busting the door down when he opened it. "Its ready! We're ready, and I have the gurney right here! He out?" Dr. SALLI nodded. "He's only been unconscious for a few moments, but I think we're ready." Together, they moved the man's body onto the gurney, the IV trailing behind as they wheeled him to the operating room. Once they arrived, the two moved Frank so that he was resting on his stomach with his head turned slightly to the side. They hooked him up to make sure he wouldn't stop breathing, and his neck had been sanitized. It was only when both a syringe of nanobots and a syringe of heavy sedatives had been prepared and placed near the operating table that Dr. SALLI took her position behind the patient and began to slice his neck open, optics narrowed as she searched for the parasite within. Here's hoping the thing would behave...

((Bear with me, I'm not much of a Doctor xD I'm trying my best though!))
