Between their sparring, Sokka managed to squeeze in a promise to do his best. Korra waited until she had already hurled the chunks of earth at Sokka before she responded with a grin. [i]"You always do your best." Sokka had proven time and again that he was a reliable friend. If Sokka promised to do his best to help her hone her airbending powers, then she trusted that he was going to follow through with all of his might. Sokka didn't make promises lightly! Still grinning and enjoying their fight, she did spare a few courtesy winces as every single hunk of rock that she hurtled his way connected. The Water Tribe warrior steadied himself however, keeping his breathing at a good pace and even coughing a laugh! Korra gave him an impressed look, raising her eyebrows at him before chuckling. "Heh, maybe!" Though she felt weaker, she somehow still felt stronger. Her body was weak, quite exhausted, but she could still feel that she could use her earthbending to spar with Sokka. She still had the strength to carry on!

Sokka charged forward, and Korra brought her hands up into a defensive position. She was ready to block and dodge whatever he threw her way! While running, the young man was able to switch weapons, bringing out his space sword. He moved quickly, positioning himself behind her and striking at the back of her legs. The hits caused her to grunt, before losing her balance and tumbling onto the ground. In her fall, she avoided the last strike, but she suddenly found herself even more exhausted then before as her head hit the ground, hair sprawled out behind her in a dark curtain. Her vision blackened around the corners, and the Avatar struggled against it for a moment. Letting out a small noise, her head lolled back all the same, eyes closed. Korra was far from dying though, merely exhausted and sapped of her energy. After a few seconds of unconsciousness, the young woman let out a low moan and brought herself up to lean her body weight on her elbows. She looked around for a moment, before she saw Sokka and gave him a crooked grin. "Not bad, Sokka. Not bad."

Sokka was glad to hear that Korra thought he always did his best, and that was just part of what helped carry him through the pain of the three chunks of rock that collided with him. He did manage to get his footing steady without too much trouble though, and shortly after he declared that she was definitely more back than she might be able to see here, he tried to catch his breath even better. "There's no maybe to it!" No matter the result of this spar, her return to this level of power was something he was fully confident of. And to think, she was still this strong with two elements and more attack power left to go… they both still had some power recovery to snag, but that they had already come this far? That was definitely encouraging.

Keeping up his charge even as Korra adopted a defensive stance, Sokka was pleased to feel his first two strikes hit their intended targets. The blunt edge of his blade was enough to incapacitate when used properly, and he was thankful that he was able to spar with it without running the risk of cutting his friend. He could tell that the Avatar's stamina was lower now though, and that was proven even more when she tumbled over onto the ground. Sokka had still followed through with his third strike, but when he saw his best friend go down, he stopped short, his blue eyes going wide as her head met the earth.

Sokka knew that the Avatar was made of much tougher stuff than to be taken out in a spar, no matter how intense any of them ever got, and this was far from the first time either of them had fallen unconscious, even momentarily. Still, as used to it as either of them might have been, his concern rocketed to the forefront of his mind, and he had pivoted around to check on her as she lay there out cold. No sooner had he set his sword aside and knelt down beside her did she come round, letting out a soft moan before propping herself up on her elbows.

Meeting Korra's smile with a broad, relieved one of his own, he gave her a strong nod. "Thanks. You weren't bad yourself… that was probably one of our most intense spars yet. … Are you all right?"

Things were slightly hazy, and Korra found that she was suddenly very thirsty. She'd definitely worked up a sweat during this spar. "Thanks." She smiled a bit more, feeling proud even though she'd lost. How could she be angry? She had earthbending back, she was still great at it, and she'd had a great spar! "Yeah, I'm definitely going to need a nice shower when we get back...and I'm going to sleep like a polar bear cub tonight. It was intense, but it was a great kind of intense!" Her grin widened even more as he began to pick herself up off the ground. "I'm fine, I'll live. Might be a bit sore, but I'm fine."

As Korra pulled herself up, the polar bear dog lumbered her way over to assist, and Korra wrapped her arms around Naga's stiff neck. "Hey, girl." She licked the side of Korra's face, the Avatar laughing a bit. She leaned into an embrace with the polar bear dog before moving to her saddle to grab out a canteen. The Avatar tilted her head back to pour some water into her mouth, drinking it greedily and deeply before pulling the canteen away from her mouth with a deep gasp. Felt much better now...she gestured at Sokka with the canteen, silently offering him water. "Well, we came, we definitely know I have my earthbending back...what's next?"

Regardless of the outcome of their spar, two things were certain: Korra's earthbending was back, and she was still just as skilled with it as she had been before she had arrived here. Sokka might not have got to see her use it until today, but if her own stories had been any indication, she had been just as if not stronger with the element than Aang had. She'd certainly had an easier time grasping it, and that definitely showed in the practice they'd just had. Unable to suppress a laugh at Korra's remarks about showers and well-deserved sleep, Sokka gave her a strong nod. "Oh yeah, me too on both counts! And you know it! It was the best kind of intense!" That could be said of pretty much all of their spars and practice sessions, and this warrior would not have it any other way.

Glad to confirm that Korra was all right save any lingering soreness, Sokka watched as she got to her feet before he could see if she wanted a hand up. That alone proved that she was all right, and the exchange between her and Naga only added to it. Sokka could not help but smile at the display, happy to see that not only was his best friend in a good mood, but to see how even that had improved since she had confirmed that her earthbending had returned.

Once Korra had retrieved her canteen and drunk her fill, Sokka readily accepted the offered water with a grateful nod. Taking his own long gulp of water as his friend spoke, he soon swallowed that before letting out a satisfied sigh, turning to her with a slight grin at her question. "Whatever you'd like. I'd personally say this is your day, so it's your call."

Korra grinned back at her friend. It was a good thing they both had their own rooms at the inn since they both needed a shower. The two of them could go their separate ways and get scrubbed and cleaned! Maybe they could even be done at the same time. How great would that be? "The absolute best kind of intense!" She bunched her hands together and laughed joyfully. "Oh, we should spar like that for every element I get back!" It was like stretching muscles that had atrophied. After being so long with the ability to bend the Earth, she could now feel the dirt beneath her, could feel how she could bend it to her will. Even though she had lost the spar, the Avatar was all smiles.

Sokka took the canteen and drank from it as well, and the sight of it almost made her thirsty all over again. The other teenage tossed the metaphorical earth disc in her ring, declaring this to be her day and anything else to be done was her call. "Hm!" She made a thoughtful noise, resting both hands on her hips as she glanced up to the sky. It was still afternoon...they'd certainly have enough time to get back to the city before it was completely dark. "I think we should go back, shower up and meet back together for a celebratory dinner! How's that sound?"

Although Sokka was set to stay out here for as long as Korra liked, the thought of a hot, refreshing shower had most certainly crossed his mind now that the dust had settled from their fun and challenging spar. As his best friend echoed his sentiment regarding it, he couldn't help but laugh along with her, especially at her following suggestion! Whether it was basic fighting, water, earth, fire, or air, he was set to rise to the challenge of a spar with the Avatar. "I would love that, and I'll be there for you for each element and skill within them!" That much had been true for her healing and earthbending, and he was set to do whatever he could to help her practice and grow.

As Korra pondered over his what to do next, she soon came up with not only a plan, but quite possibly the best possible plan. They'd had a great day so far, punctuated by this training session, and they still had plenty of time to enjoy the rest of it. "That sounds perfect to me! Let's start making our way for the city again!" With the time it took them to get out to the mountains in the first place, the journey back wouldn't be long at all, and the thought of a great dinner with an even better friend made it even more enticing.

"This is great!" Sokka agreed to stick by her through every element and skill, intent to spar and help her develop. It made her think, maybe she could try out metal now that she had Earthbending! Though, Korra was a little antsy about attempting to metal bend. She had never done it before, and she had only ever watched Lin do it. Could she remember how Lin did it and try to imitate her? Or should the two of them make a trip of going to the library to look up information? It was an option that was best left to ponder later. She had only just gotten earthbending back, after all! She had to walk before she could run. "Thank you Sokka, I really appreciate that."

Sokka found her idea to be entirely agreeable, and Korra sauntered over to him and threw an arm around his shoulders. "I'm right beside you." The two of them began to make their way over to where they had left Naga, who began to lick over whatever wounds they had from the spar. Korra rubbed her finger between Naga's eyes softly. "We're alright Naga, it's just a few scrapes and bruises." Korra patted her clothes down, a nice layer of dirt rising and dissipating into the air. She cast her glance around the mountain side, memorizing the area. She wanted to remember this day, the day she got her Earthbending back. Smiling to herself, Korra turned back to Sokka. "Ready?" She gestured to Naga's saddle, giving him the chance to hop on first.

Korra said it best herself: this WAS great. A fun day out, an exhilarating spar, a recovered element, and even more proof that she was getting back to her true Avatar self. Sokka was admittedly excited on his own for his best friend, and that was only augmented via the enthusiasm he was vicariously getting from her. He had a strong feeling that today was just the start of even more versatile training and battling for her, and he was looking forward to every step of the way. Helping Korra practice was a little different that when he'd been alongside Aang as he learned the elements in the first place, but it had him feeling just as good on the inside.

Smiling to Korra as she wrapped her arm around his shoulders, Sokka in turn moved his arm to hug her around the side just below that. Nodding to her at that, he added, "And I'm right by you." They were always there figuratively, and now they were there literally as well for the moment. In short order, they were back by Naga, who'd begun to look over the two of them and lick over the wounds they'd managed to inflict on each other in their vigorous spar. Her care was certainly appreciated, but Korra was still quick to reassure her. Scratching Naga's ears, Sokka echoed her words, adding, "We're just fine, but thanks for checking on us."

Sokka soon moved to pat off the lingering dirt from his own frame before he turned to Korra, smiling as he saw the way she was surveying the area. They'd had a good feeling about their adventure today, and it had more than lived up to what they'd hoped it would be. It made perfect sense that she wanted to get another good look of this area first, and honestly, it was a great place to add to their list of shared memories.

Meeting Korra's smile with one of his own as she looked to him, he simply nodded at her question. "You know it," said Sokka, just before he climbed up onto Naga's back and got situated on her saddle. With moment to make sure he was set, he offered his hand to Korra so that the two of them could ride on home.

Her arm was still wrapped around Sokka's shoulders, though the warrior reciprocated the action by wrapping his own arm around her side. The two were now pressed up close together, shoulder to shoulder, and Korra chuckled to herself. "I wouldn't have it any other way." She'd had Sokka at her side for all of this time, it didn't feel right to not have him there. Which was rather funny, since she'd only known him for the past couple of years. Really known him...not just seen him a couple of times, had a few conversations before his passing. The Sokka that she knew now, that she would never have seen without coming here, had become such a vital part of her life. Imagining her life without him seemed impossible...she had known him for even longer then she had known Bolin, Mako and Asami. He was important.

With the Avatar focused on the spot between her eyes and Sokka at her ears, Naga was easily soothed. Her tongue lolled from her mouth as the polar bear dog panted, nudging her large head into their hands eagerly. She was relieved that the two of them were alright. It was her job to check up on them, or so Naga was convinced. Once their hands had left her fur, Naga rumbled at them both, though she seemed to realize they'd be leaving soon. She remained standing, waiting for them both to hop on.

Korra met Sokka's gaze, smiling back at her friend as she tore her eyes away from the mountain side. Every thick boulder, every dusty dirt path, it had all been memorized for the future. As fun as this had been though, now it was time for them to leave. To return to the Inn, collect themselves...get in some good, hot showers! It was time to relax again, and wait to see when she'd regain her ability to bend fire. Sokka now ready, he hopped on first. Korra waited, watching him get situated before she gave him a nod. She took his hand, and used it to pull her self up onto the saddle. Her feet were steady in the stirrups, and both hands grabbed the reins firmly. Korra spared one backwards glance at Sokka to make sure he was ready, before her heels lightly nudged into Naga's sides. "Naga, go!" The polar bear dog had been waiting to hear those words, and the moment they left Korra's mouth, they were on the move. Back down the mountainside, Naga's paws carried them.
