    Ascetic Flight

Post by Jherrek on Mon Nov 24, 2014 8:05 pm

    NOV. 24: 6:00PM

There are many things about this place that work on the more irritated side of Jherrek's mind. The Syn'ya doesn't enjoy cities, much less living in an inn where there are others to consider. It's nice of course to have a home and pay basically nothing to stay there. However, it is still not as quiet as he would hope, even with all the sound wards he puts around his brother. No manner of runecraft can stop the musical Revenant's audio. As Jherrek's wings flit out on the late fall breeze, he holds his body close with his arms. There is another thing. The cold. He dreads it. The wind itself might as well be the Ice Drakes from the Azure Halls themselves. He grits his teeth, and in that moment a tustle of hair gets caught in his mouth. His wings flick back as he slows his speed to remove the straying strand. He looks down to where he currently is. He had been flying for only minutes, just to get away, but managed to make it to the seashore. He smiles widely. Ah, finally. Something he does enjoy.

The Silver-haired angel flaps twice before hovering down in a large circle to land on the sandy beach. Not much is better than the sight and smells here. He's always loved it, even when he was a boy. So lulling, so beautiful. And the sky is clearer tonight, and dusk is amidst him. Beautiful indeed.

Jherrek stands with good posture, straightening his peacoat and tapping the toes of his dress shoes on a rock to loosen any packed sand. His wings and tailfeathers flick out, sending sand in all directions. He sighs slowly, his silver halo appearing out of it's evanescence. The Syn'ya pulls his hair back tighter, leaving in its ponytail he keeps it in whilst flying. There is nary a follicle out of place. Good. All is well.

Jherrek levitates upwards, his long wingspan flapping slowly, but gaining immediate altitude, and he catches an updraft, sending him soaring skyward. At the peak of the flight, Jherrek tucks in his wings and somersaults backwards. He hurdles downward at a steep angle, and at impossible speeds. A silver streak in the nearly night sky.

Just before he hits the water he spreads his feathers wide, gliding just as fast as he dove right above the water's surface.

And on Jherrek goes... To enjoy the night as it were. Not much could ruin this feeling for him. The salty air, the sound of water, the feeling of night coming. It's all just magickal enough for him to forget the situation.

    He smiles.

Cities, and by extension people, were quite enough right now. Joshua had not, of late, enjoyed the presence of others. The noise inside his head was no greater than ever, and in some cases was even quieter, but there were things about the people he spent most of his time near that had recently come to light, that had disturbed him beyond measure. As such, he'd decided to take another holiday to the seaside, though this one slightly better prepared than the last. Joshua had not yet reached the point where a holiday to Prixlezub's recommended spot was necessary, the desolation would require a whole additional level of disgust with the people that were almost but not quite yet beyond redemption.

Unlike his last holiday at the beach, Joshua had more than a log, and more than just a shirt and jeans. He'd acquired something like the fluffy white coat once again from the Sanctuary closet, and had built something rickety and unsteady out of branches and rope. Though the raft was far from stable, given that his last holiday this far from shore had been accomplished on something as small as a log, with less clothing on, this was an upgrade.

The sea spray smelled lovely and briney, only so nice because none of it reached his face. His jeans and coat were sprinkled with spray from the short crests of the waves on the relatively calm surface, the bulk of his wetness from where his cross legged form sat on the raft, the gaps between pieces of wood wide and easily letting water pass through. It was mildly unpleasant, but nothing compared to the discomfort of being at home at the inn, and the headaches that were always present.

His eyes were open, and he had been watching the empty sky for not quite an hour. He'd slept, earlier, and just now returned to his meditative state. There was nothing out here, and the peace was a blessing. There was the occasional bird, but none came close enough to bother him, and whatever fish might be beneath the surface were also leaving him alone. His expression serene, it lacked the customary sarcastic grin that people seldom saw him without.

The Syn'ya's wings dip into the water as he speeds along the surface, a wake of water spreading out behind him and causing small waves to spread out from the shoreline. He breathes deep the salty air. A true experience for one with flight. Having the ground or water so very near to them only to be saved buy their own volition. Flying.

Jherrek's arm comes up to guard his face as a small wave crashes under him, spraying his clothes and dampening his coat. He grimaces and quickly remedies the situation. Holding his amulet in one palm, he activates the rune. A shimmer of bright silvery light bursts out in the evening horizon. His halo flares to life, and his wings shine like incandescent scales. Metallic even.  Armour folds itself into place and locks in his joints, his helm sliding over his head and locking in with his halo. Completed, he continues his glide out to sea.

    -Ah.... much better.-

He dives forward into the first wave, and speeds downwards into the water. His armour air-tight, and sustaining him as he jets to the bottom, folding his wings in an O shape to retain his velocity. After a moment, he withdraws his wings, somersaults before hitting the seafloor, then opens his wings in a giant flare.

Flapping downward, a great maelstrom of sand and rock shoot out in all directions and he is nearly immediately upon the surface, emerging unharmed and unbothered. A smile splays across his face under the mask of his armour.

-Nothing like the complete quiet of the ocean to drown out the noise.-

Unfortunately, his peace was not to last. His unfortunate mental ability made it so the intrusion of something as simple as another sentient being enjoying a day on the ocean disturbed his peace, as it did here. The mental voice was not inane, or overly obtrusive, merely present. Joshua could not hear the words the voice was saying, it was too alien for that. What he could hear was the fact that there was a voice, and that voice was not speaking to him. It wasn't like Kev or Fear, it was like everyone else, just thinking along on its own, broadcasting on a frequency Joshua's remarkable brain could pick up. The voice was serene, a lot like what Joshua imagined a whale would sound like if it was just dawdling along under the surface, though this mind was not only under the surface. Though still a ways off, he could tell it was dipping below the horizon and rising above it in sequence, rather like a flying fish of some kind.

A glint on the horizon indicates where the presence is, the sheen metallic and unlike anything Joshua knows of that lives in the sea. His raft makes slow progress toward the spot the glint came from, moving independent of the current beneath the surface, though not in any hurry. This mind was likely taking as much of a break as Joshua himself was, for all that it was putting a dent in his rest. Perhaps a journey to the desert was in order, if the seaside became more populated beyond just the one additional mind. When would the other become aware of Joshua? And would it be a violent meeting, with both of them unhappy about being disturbed? Or would it be something different?

Joshua stood from his cross-legged pose, the backs of his jeans getting a chance to dry off slightly in the stiff, cold wind while he looked over the horizon, one hand shading his eyes from the bright sky.

A small prickling feeling nags at the back of Jherrek's neck.

As the Syn'ya, in full regalia, turns on the spot, his wings flit out and spread. He hovers over his current spot over the ocean, using the updrafts that are in abundance along the coast to his advantage. He scans the area quickly. The silver-haired angel has always had a sense of these sorts of things. Being watched. Ghosts, demons, possessed people, and voidlings were one thing, but being watched... It was a small feeling, but something he feels nonetheless.

His silver wings beat to the rhythm of the pounding of the waves far off on shore. He doesn't feel a hostile presence. That's not what he thinks. He turns and touches his face, a small yellow rune appearing on his eye. A rune he used way back when he first arrived here. He zooms in his vision and looks in the area of his feeling.

Hmmm... what is this? I'm not alone.

At first, he is indeed disappointed, his thought rings with such a tone in his own mind. However, someone out this far in the ocean? Jherrek looks closely, examining the raft far away, and the boy standing upon it.

Well that's odd. Colour Jherrek curious.

The Syn'ya's wings flit upwards as he brings his arm to his side, and he catches another updraft. Flying high into the air, he circles the area once before diving downward toward the raft and boy. Thoughts of a boy stuck out at sea for days due to the portals leaving him out there suddenly blossom in his head. He almost sighs to himself as he nears the raft, damn his curiosity.

One day it will get me killed. I can't have that.

Slowly descending, he is before the boy. And he cocks his head to the side slowly. His glowing eyes and halo shine bright in the area, so any possible darkening of the heavens won't stop his examination. The boy doesn't seem worse for wear... Who....

"Greetings... Are you quite alright?" His voice seems a bit metallic now, due to his helm. Making him seem like a haunted suit of armour.

The metallic speck shoots skyward, Joshua losing sight of it briefly before it came back into sight, circling, and then approaching swiftly. The metallic shape attached to the mind approached rapidly, and when it was close enough, Joshua's hand dropped to his side, cocked on his hip along with the other as he frowned up at the flying one. It was like a metal reimagining of an angel, the halo and wings a dead giveaway. At least Joshua's true form was hidden inside; though perhaps this one had let its guard down since it thought it was alone. On the other hand, that metallic voice really threw Joshua off. Perhaps it wasn't anything angelic at all? There were plenty of other explanations, probably; he'd just have to think about it more to come up with one.

"Hello. I see I'm not the only one that likes the ocean."

His pose atop the wooden raft might seem precarious, unless upon closer examination one were to notice that the planks of wood weren't actually being held together by rope or glue or anything tangible at all, and Joshua's feet, while on the raft, weren't rolling as much as might be expected from the natural motion of the ocean. There was something subtly off about his spot, other than the fact that he was a young teenager in the middle of the blooming ocean on a raft with no company. He didn't have a response to whether or not he was alright, he figured the inevitable conclusion was that he was, especially given his question.

Jherrek's flapping wings come to a halt as the Syn'ya folds them and writes a rune on the air. A large platform of metallic light appears under him on the waves, and he lands upon it, his armour making naught but the slightest of sounds before he straightens himself. In a twisting hand motion, the armour dissipates in a  flash, the wings and halo stay, however. Jherrek walks forward, the platform moving with him.

He takes in what he can see, this is definitely someone who is perfectly fine where they are. His thoughts ring clearly and crisply, and in steady time.

    Boy. Undisturbed by predicament.
        -In desired situation.
Well dressed. Not starved. Has not begged for help.
                -Either wise, or powerful.
Raft, unaided construction. Power related possibly.
                           -He is here on purpose.
                                    -He wishes to be alone
                                               -Not a people person
                                                          -Interests align.

Jherrek folds his arms behind his back and looks out into the sky. Smiling as the waves wash upon the platform he created. His feet unnaturally stable on the rune-made construction. His silver hair whips out from the side of his face. His mind is nearly clear. Probably something Joshua would find amusing. His thoughts are not wasted on the mundane. His mind is calm. Jherrek seems to be in a state of constant meditation.

"Indeed. It quite literally washes my cares and doubts away at times. I hope I'm not disturbing you, you seemed to be in dire straits from afar." He takes a quick look at the boy for a moment and continues to exist near him.

"I am Jherrek Akir, and you are?" Jherrek's wings flick to remove water, sending a small spray behind him before folding back around his shoulders to protect the Syn'ya's face.

That was an interesting phenomenon, and if Joshua were a scientist, he'd be sure to ask to study it further. As it was, the platform the other stood upon and the composition of its armor were things that could be let go, whatever they were, they worked for this Jherrek Akir and that was enough. He did look more human, without the armor, though the mind behind the eyes was certainly not human, whatever it was. Angel was looking more and more probable, but still not assured.

"My common name is Joshua, though that's not my birth name. That's not important, what is is that you aren't a disturbing presence, your mind it quite relaxing, compared to the norm that I am out here to escape. I don't know about washing my cares away," here, a crooked grin found its way onto his face before he continued "but it certainly washes away the noise from everyone elses voices intruding. Don't let me bother your flight, I'm just sitting here."

He gestured behind him slightly at the little innocent looking raft with its slightly waterlogged features, a far cry from Jherrek's own solid light floor, but it was acceptable and less effort overall than simply flying all the time.

Jherrek's eyes blink twice before he makes the decision. Turning around from facing Joshua, he opens up his wings and covers himself in his armor. His mind becomes empty, a great block of meditation entering the telepathic scene. One thought rings out before though...

    ~Mind eaters.~

Jherrek's floor of light dissipates as he hovers upwards, spreading his wings high to catch the updrafts coming off tge waves.

"In any case it was pleasant to meet you, Joshua. Enjoy your sailing trip."

And with that, he flaps up once and towards the shore. His quieted thoughts not returning until he was a good diatance away.

He has never been comfortable with people in his head.
