Nodding once more to Link as he agreed with her, Sheik soon added, “All right then. Given the way the clouds seem to be moving there, we should know sooner rather than later.” As far as having a cozy spot went, the disguised princess could not help but agree with her best friend. It was a surprisingly welcoming cave, and it had provided them not only with a very welcome shelter from the rain, but also a good place to have a heartfelt moment with each other. The two were as close as they could be, but even so, no matter how things were, Sheik did love and appreciate moments like these. In fact, she downright cherished them.

Thinking on it, that was yet another strange bonus that the curses had bestowed upon the Hyruleans… even more of a chance to have nice moments like these. They had figured out early on that they would grow even closer from them, and sure enough, they had… and these moments were all a part of that.

“Yeah,” noted Link, soon scanning the horizon himself, just before expelling a puff of air from his lips to adjust his bangs slightly. The three Hylian kids all had goofy, gravity defying bangs of their own, and they all liked them (and why shouldn’t they? They suited them!), but sometimes, they did need the slightest bit of tending to.

Tatl chimed softly at that simple action of her partner, content to let the two kids sit in silence for a little while longer. The rain was letting up, but it was sure taking its sweet time doing so. It was barely a drizzle now, but it just felt like it was taking forever to make up its mind about what it was going to do. She knew that patience was a good thing and she knew that they weren’t in a super hurry to get home, but… she was starting to get increasingly more set to suggest that they just warp. Yes, they could look for possible clues on the walk home, but still…

Before Tatl could say anything else though, she perked up, chiming a bit more loudly. Was that… wait…

    *DING DING DING!*

Flying a bit more forward, Tatl fluttered about the two kids’ heads a bit before stating, “You two stay here… I thought I saw something.”

And with that, the Terminian fairy bolted out of the cave, zooming forward in the slightest of rains towards the rustling in the bushes she swore she had seen. As for Link, he just blinked in confusion, barely having a chance to call out “Tatl!” as his companion went to investigate something. Just what did she think she had seen?

Kyuu kyuu kyuu… this was big, this was very big! A mere hour ago, Macho had just been minding his own business in the forest, enjoying the nice, quiet day before the rain settled in. But as he started to scurry about the woods, he had seen a particular glint very near him… one that he had seen back in the Faron Woods, and one that he had become even more familiar with here in this world. That was natural since it was an object he was used to, but even more than that, he had gained added familiarity with them thanks to his friendship with the Hyruleans.

It had been none other than a treasure chest, and although Machi was usually quite content to simply remember the location of one and inform his taller friends of it once he had met with them, for some reason, he felt compelled to open this one… it was as though he needed to, that it was more important for this chest to be opened sooner rather than later! The contents had been curious to say the least, but if his Kikwi memory was serving him correctly, then this had been something that Ms Impa had been looking for for at least a couple of months now. He knew it might not help uncurse them, but even if it was just the second half of a puzzle, then he was happy to have been able to help!

Before he could get back to shelter though, the sky had opened up, soon catching the curious Kikwi underneath a very nice, very thick patch of shrubbery. At least this was a safe and mostly dry place to wait out the storm!

Some time later, as the rain finally let up, Machi picked his now rested self up and began to waddle back through the woods. He had to hold onto this shiny golden piece so that he could give it to his friends! And hopefully, he would see them sooner rather than later!

Sheik blinked as not only did Tatl chime suddenly and request that she and Link stay put for the time being, she soon darted forward out of the cave. Her best friend called out for the Terminian fairy, but she was already gone, having disappeared just past the first section of trees outside. Strange… Sheik knew that Tatl was very perceptive, many times capable of picking up on things that either of them might have missed, but it was always curious to see just what she might have seen.

“Well, she said she thought she saw something… I’m sure everything’s okay and she’ll be back soon.” After all, if it wasn’t they would undoubtedly hear even more chiming soon followed by the pale yellow light whooshing right back towards them faster than they could blink.

Link nodded in agreement with Sheik, as although it was far from out of character for Tatl to do something like this, he was always concerned for his friend. The Hyruleans might have started to know these woods like the back of their hand even with their ever changing nature – the appearance of the cursed springs notwithstanding – but even so, they always looked out for each other here.

As for Tatl herself, the quick fairy soon zoomed forward in the ever lightening rain, taking mere moments to spots just what she had thought she had seen from the mouth of the cave. Or rather, just who she had thought she’d seen. “Hey!” Flitting over to the familiar form of Machi, Tatl bobbed in place, pulsed her glow, and dinged a couple of times. “Machi, what are you doing out here? It was just pouring down rain!”

“KYUU!!!” Although he was long since familiar with Tatl, Machi could not help but be startled at her sudden exclamation. As if on instinct, he quickly dropped face forward and opened up the bulb on his back, presenting his quick camouflage just as he realized that he recognized the voice. Blinking a couple of times before raising his head and glancing about, he soon looked to the bright form of Tatl, just before he let out another, softer exclamation. “Kyuu kyuu! Tatl! It’s ever so good to see you! I was out here because the rain was sudden, but I found shelter, kee-paleep! There were some thick, safe shrubs!”

As Machi hopped to his feet and dusted off his belly, he beamed to Tatl, his previous thoughts about his find suddenly rushing back to him. “Tatl! Are you out here with any of our friends? I found something I think they might like!”

Tatl just paused at that. By now, she was very used to each of the Kikwis personalities, including the way that a couple of them could go from scared to fine in a matter of seconds. At least Machi was all right, though… that was all that mattered. Just what could he have found, though?

Shaking a couple of drops of water from her wings as the rain continued to let up to something less than a drizzle, she stated, “Yeah, I’m out here with Link and Sheik. We hid out from the rain in this cave. Follow me.” With that, the Terminian fairy began to lead the way back to the cave, chiming a bit more as she came into view of the two Hylian kids once more.

Link’s blue eyes lit up as Tatl returned to sight, and he soon widened his eyes as he saw just who was with her. “Hey look, it’s Machi!” Sure enough, Tatl had apparently seen one of the Kikwis, and judging from his expression, he was rather excited about whatever he was holding in his hands.

Machi could not help but elicit a couple of excited Kyuus as Tatl led him closer and closer to the mouth of the cave, soon seeing both Link and Sheik, just as the fairy mentioned! He had already been excited about his find, and now, that had only intensified as he could share it all the sooner! This was absolutely the best!

“Kyuu kyuu! Link! Sheik! It is great to see you both!” Macho exclaimed as he waddled ever closer to his friends. “Kweeee! I’m even happier to see you than usual! Er, seeing you is always wonderful, but I have something for you! I just found it!” He had not even got to share it with the Terminian fairy yet, and whilst he would have been happy to, that might have been too much excitement to repeat all at once!

Hardly able to contain himself much longer past their own words, he suddenly thrust his hands upward, holding the very distant jagged half of a small, golden Kinstone. “Kee-paleep! This looks just like that puzzle piece Ms Impa had found, does it not? Well, it is backwards, but that means it should connect to the other piece, right?” Kyuu?

Sheik’s red eyes brightened as she saw Tatl returning with Machi in tow. It was never too surprising to run into any of the Kikwis out in the forest, but it was always a nice find. As glad as the two kids were to see the curious Kikwi though, somehow, he seemed even more excited than usual to see them. “Hey Machi!” No sooner had Link noted who it was though and she called out to him though than did he cry out himself and hurry his pace towards them. Sure enough, he was quick to close the distance, and before either of them could say anything more than did he explain that he was even happier than usual to see them.

Having apparently just found something – and new discoveries always piqued both Sheik and Link’s interest as was part of their inner adventurous natures – Machi was quick to hold it up, and as soon as she got a good look at it, the disguised princess simply stared. This… this was without a doubt a Kinstone, and a rare gold one at that. More than even that though, unless if the disguised princess’ memory failed her… this one was an exact match to the Kinstone that Impa had found a couple of months ago with Sir Meta Knight. She had no idea just what secrets it might hold, but it was bound to be something important considering the rarity of this sort of stone.

“Machi… that… that looks exactly like it… I think you found the second half of the Kinstone!” Sheik exclaimed, still studying the piece from where it rested in the Kikwis hands. She knew that ever since Impa had found the first half that she had let the Kikwis know about it just in case if they happened to find anything (as after all, ten extra eyes in the forest were always helpful!), but even though she was fully confident that they would do anything to help, it was still amazing to see that Machi had found not only something helpful, but the second half itself. “Thank you so much for finding it and bringing it to us… can I please see it?”

In short order, Tatl returned to the cave, Machi soon matching her pace before the two of them ended up right underneath the edge of its shelter. The Terminian fairy fluttered her wings a bit more rapidly to remove the few raindrops that had collected on them, but as she resumed her normal flapping pace, she soon found her attention drawn to the object that Machi was holding. What… WAS THAT?!

No sooner had Tatl begun chiming in surprise than did Link’s own blue eyes widen. The same as Sheik, he instantly recognized the Kinstone, but whilst his best friend was able to articulate just what it looked like, the Hero of Time was temporarily rendered speechless. When Impa had first found the other Kinstone, she had explained to them that there was a chance that it would serve to help them in removing their curse. After all, it had been bestowed to her by the Fountain of Dreams, and if it worked the way that Sir Meta Knight described, then surely it had to be connected. There was of course a slim chance that these two Kinstone pieces were connected to something else entirely, but Link felt hopeful… and as with so many items he had found across his quests, something about this just seemed like it was exactly what they were looking for.

Like the final piece of heart, something fell into place, and he looked on in silent wonder as Sheik asked to see the Kinstone for herself.

“Of course, kyuu kyuu!” Machi exclaimed, more than happy to let his friends see the Kinstone. After all, he had brought it to them for them! He was not nearly as versed with Kinstones as his friends were, but as he had promised to keep an eye out for anything even remotely related to that shiny gold shard that Ms Impa had found, he was set to stick to that. If this was in fact what they were looking for, he could hardly wait to tell Bucha and the others! Oh kee-paleep, they would be so happy and excited!

With his own eagerness building Machi lifted the Kinstone so that Sheik could take it, inwardly hoping that he had found just what they were looking for! Surely this had to be something!

As soon as Machi exclaimed a positive reply, Sheik could not help but smile a bit more. The Kikwis never failed to boost the moods and spirits of any of the Hyruleans, and in general, regardless of his wonderful find, the disguised princess was especially glad to have met him and the others. It was still surreal to think that they had all once met and assisted her ancestor, and in some ways, it nearly seemed as though fate had meant to bring them together in this world.

Once Machi lifted the Kinstone up for her, Sheik gently took it from his small hands, carefully picking it up and examining it. She scrutinized it for several long seconds, her red eyes nearly burning with her intense focus, and only once she had thoroughly inspected it did she relax her expression… right before it shifted into a broad grin.

“This is it… Link, Machi’s found what we were looking for!”

Link watched quietly as Sheik took the Kinstone from Machi, inwardly having a really, really good feeling about this, but trying to remind himself to leave the teeniest bit of doubt just in case if they were wrong. It was really hard to do, but one thing that Link had started to learn over the years, both back in Hyrule as well as on the Breach, was how to prepare for the worst whilst hoping for the best. He always, no matter what, ALWAYS hoped for the best, and the Hylian boy was an optimist to his very core. That was all in his nature, and it had only been honed by the way he had learned to trust his instincts. And right now, they were telling him that Sheik’s original assessment had been correct.

Sure enough, after several heavy seconds of her looking over the golden fragment, she soon took on a characteristic grin. Link found that to be instantly contagious, and as his own blue eyes brightened right up, Tatl effectively added to the scene by chiming in surprised excitement.

“YES! Oh wow, thank you, Machi! Thank you so much!”

Machi reached with all of his might to extend the Kinstone to Sheik, even though he probably did not need to. After all, the Sheikah in training was not THAT much taller than him! All the same, he wanted to make sure that he handed off the shiny artifact as carefully and perfectly as possible! This was what they were looking for! At least it stood a good chance of being what they were looking for! And that was a great feeling! Oh kyuu kyuu, he hoped that this was the thing!

When Sheik took the Kinstone and started to study it, Machi could almost feel himself starting to sweat in nervousness! He understood inspecting things and being careful, but this was so tense! Or maybe even intense! Kweeeeee, he wanted this to be the right thing!

Soon enough though, his worries were laid to rest as Sheik confirmed that his was exactly what they had been searching for, casually as it might have been much of the time. That was it! MACHI HAD FOUND IT! Oh kee-paleep, he felt so happy and useful that he could hardly contain himself! As it was, all he could do was elicit a series of high pitched exclamations of excitement! He was so happy for his good friends!

Sheik was quick to echo both Link's excitement and gratitude, although upon subsequent reflection, she realized that even with as excited and thankful as she sounded in her outward expression, on the inside, she felt all of this even more strongly. They might not have known what exactly either half of the Kinstone pieces would lead them to, but considering the way that Impa had been gifted the previous one from the Fountain of Dreams, the disguised princess was fairly certain that the Kinstones held the key to their being cured.

Whether it was via an automatic cure or simply leading them to one, she was sure that they were one step closer to resolving all of this.

With as excited as both he and Sheik were over this discovery, and of course with Machi's own excitement over having been able to help his friends find something they had been looking for, somewhere in the back of his mind, Link was already thinking about just how they needed to proceed next. To the Hero of Time, this was just like a quest... he had already had something in mind, in this case the previous Kinstone, and he had just been presented with something connected to it... i.e., its other half. Now they needed to get back to Impa to fuse the two Kinstones and see just where they led!

Whether they took them to the forest or elsewhere, Link was positive that they would bring even more good news with them! He wasn't sure exactly how things would pan out, but deep in his gut, he had a really good feeling about this.

For the time being, it seemed that all three of them – or rather, four if you included Miss Tatl as well, (but whilst Machi was always set to include the fairy with any numbers, her own reaction was more in the way she carried herself, so he nearly overlooked it in all of the excitement!) – were too ecstatic to do much else than take in the moment, but that was perfectly fine by the outgoing Kikwi! This was a very special moment for each of them, and whilst he heard and readily accepted their thanks, he was far happier by the simple fact that he had helped his friends! Kyuu kyuu kyuu, that was always such a good feeling!

"Kweeeee! You're very welcome!" He finally managed to exclaim. Now to see just where they got to go next!
