    A Shot in the Dark

Post by Shaiamils on Fri Dec 15, 2017 2:53 pm

    DATE: DECEMBER 15TH, 0008
    TIME: 4:00 PM

Just a couple days prior, Shaiamils had seen a new flier on the bulletin board on his way home from work. It was a request for a date written up by Anjeet. Other than a few minor spelling errors, it was completely legible. Anjeet, now that was a character. The doctor remembered how she had been in the audience during this year's talent show, and how much she loved his and Scaramouche's performance. He remembered how she had decided to try out having wings because of him, how he ended up teaching her to fly, that game on Halloween, the Thanksiving hugs, her contagious zeal at the wedding...

The avian would be lying to himself if he insisted that he hadn't fallen for her at least somewhat. But still, he could not help but ponder the hurdles that might come with such a relationship. First, there was her language, which Shai could hardly understand. Eventually, he picked up on some words, but mostly she ended up having to communicate with him through gestures, or otherwise Kev or Scaramouche would have to translate. Then there was their height difference, the feathery alien towering four feet over her. And what about his significantly longer lifespan? He had no idea how he would be able to handle outliving a significant other, and by a large margin.

Would they even be able to have children?

    ...

The doctor facepalmed at the thought. Seriously, Shai? This was no time to be thinking about children. You haven't even had your first date with her yet! Soon enough, he made his way to Anjeet's room. With some hesitation, he knocked on the door. No response. He knocked again. Nothing. The avian sighed, disappointed. She was clearly not home right now, but he did remember how she had instructed those interested to leave a note if that was the case. And so he took out a pen and some paper, getting to writing.

Hello! I saw your ad on the bulletin board, and I think I might be interested. You can find me in the Sanctuary most nights, especially on the weekends. I look forward to speaking with you about this!

    - Shaiamils

Courteously, Shaiamils taped the note to the door at a height in which Anjeet could reach. With that, the feathery alien made his leave. He very much hoped that he would see her sooner than later.

    Later that day...

Anjeet skipped into the Inn, very much satisfied with herself. The fuzzy alien had been out shopping for some new, much warmer clothes for the Winter. So far, they were getting the job done quite nicely! Even indoors, she almost didn't want to take them off. After making her way to the third floor, she saw something on the door to her room which made her heart skip a beat.

There was a note on the door. Had someone seen the ad she had placed on the bulletin board and taken interest in her? Whoever this was, they also had the courtesy to tape it to the door at a height in which she could easily reach. That already spoke numbers for whoever this mystery person was. Hastily, Anjeet swiped the piece of paper on the door, reading the contents of the note with bated breath.

As the Jawa reached the end of the note, it felt as if her heart had suddenly leaped into her throat. Her face grew hot, and her nose twitched. Shai... One after the other, several images came to her mind. The doctor's outfit out the talent show, his Halloween costume, that dapper tux at the wedding, his amazing voice... There was no denying it. Anjeet always thought that the avian was a sight to behold. And he was a total sweetheart to boot, having taught her to fly when she had tried out having wings.

Unbeknownst to him, though, Anjeet had some of the same concerns about what that kind of relationship might entail. Her biggest worry was that she would probably pass on long before him, selfishly leaving him to go on without her. She also wanted a family someday, and wondered if it was even possible for the both of them to produce viable offspring.

    ...

Oh well! You never truly know these things until you try, right? One way or another, Anjeet was going to catch up with him. This definitely needed to be addressed sooner than later.
