    A Home to Hunt for

Post by Curiosity on Tue Apr 10, 2018 11:39 am

    Time: 9:10pm
    Date: 4/10/18
    Weather: cool breezy cloudless night

Dark paws launched into the night sky, followed by an unashamed cry of pure glee from the excitement. If the agile human from the night before didn’t know that they were out right disobeying him, he probably knew from the beast’s hunting call. Most wouldn’t find it any different from any booming roar, but how many cursed pseudowyverns roamed the city?

Curi had been restless during the night, his body-clock had reset after the lake incident. It didn’t help that his rider was quite nocturnal herself, but at least it was easier for her to burn energy. Running circles and rafter crunches was easy to burn energy especially if your tiny and can use everything, but what if you normal mode of exercise was hunting and fighting? The Deviant hadn’t even thought about finding someone to spar with simply because he didn’t know how to hold back. Sparing in the sanctuary might actually be a good idea, since it had these shields that would kick in if things got too tough. Another reason would be because a fake fight wasn’t as compelling, having to hold back was just something the animal didn’t want to do. Not to mention he craved blood and destruction after what happens at the lake.

Speaking of the lake the beast had started to feel more and more... well beastly. It was invigorating to finally give in and unleash himself, being restrained and given boundaries would be the end of him. Some of these he might cling to likely to keep certain connections with certain people, like Kev. Though the mouthless alien did not approve of the new Curiosity, the one who was slowly being consumed by the a curse.

    ‘Out of the city, finally!’

The Silverwind was flying faster than usual, being so full of nocturnal energy and the call to hunt was more than inviting. With his rider clinging to his back kept up his speed as they speared through the cloudless sky. The beast was half concerned that she would yell over the winds and turn them back to the cramped city. Part of him knew that she herself wanted to join him on the hunt for territory and gore. The other part of him the one who followed his newly found morals seemed to think that she should take them back, but its voice was so muffled and hidden that it didn’t seem to exist anymore. Although, with some triggers that principled Curiosity would make an appearance. For once both sides seemed pretty pleased to be out of the city walls at night and nearing his true habitat, the night shadowed forest. But before they could arrive they needed to fly passed that deity inhabited lake. Till this day their encounter with the woman of the lake frighten the Deviant, the mere thought of such a powerful and dominant aura would agitate the beast. It’s not that he hated her, its more that he hate himself for being so scared and weak. How was he suppose to protect his rider if he couldn’t bring himself to fight in such conditions?

Dipping lower in the grasslands the beast spotted what looked like clouds gathered on the ground. Diving low enough he picked up on their odd smell, mostly herbivore excrements and unwashed wool. He would have dropped lower and perhaps picked one up if not for the distinct scent of Nym. So this was Kev’s other home.. It was a decent sized structure surrounded with the smells of creatures barely deemed as prey, most were too small and well Nym seemed more of a predator than ever. Knowing that his mouthless alien friend was still living in the city and Nym wasn’t exactly much fun, he was more of threat really, Curi flapped hard to gain altitude. With his night sharpened eyes the Nargacuga spotted something up ahead, some thing that visibly sent shivers down his vertebra.

Curi slowed slightly feeling the tingly sensation of the bond they had with the entity of the mentioned lake. They were so high over its waters that with the reflection of the stars it seemed to look like a flat disk that reflected the night sky. If they hadn’t encountered the woman of the lake the beast would have flown straight over its waters, perhaps dip closer to play with its surface. Since they did the cursed beast gave it a wide berth, he curved around it so that they wouldn’t be reflected on its surface. He really didn’t need to but he felt that it would be rude to enter that entity’s territory without receiving a summoning. He wasn’t fond of being in such a state of fear so he very much kept his distance and speed up to their destination.

    “Rrrrr.....”

A while later of lazy gliding the pair had reach their destination, the large collection of tall trees near the mountain. It was just as Kev had imagined, surely the view at night was just as breathtaking as it was when the sun was rising.

The Deviant glided lazily over the large territory, the height of trees and the density of the forest was almost exactly like his own. Although, he had knocked down enough trees to make it easier for him to navigate his territory. After all a big wyvern needed enough room to walk through, and he was considered very large compared to the rest of his species. The funny thing was they weren’t sure if he was done growing just yet, he wasn’t sure either. With the free meals from the sanctuary he indeed had grown, in length as well as width.

With the pace of their descend set, the beast took the time to scent the air over the forest. He wanted to know if there were any large beasts that had claimed the forest as their own. The perfect hunting grounds were mostly claimed, but that wouldn’t stop this beast from going on a hunting trip or trying to claim the area. As they reached the treetops the pseudowyvern took care to land softly in a large enough tree, which he was sure could support their weight. Opening his beakmaw he scented the air for signs of prey or a possible territory rival. The musky smell of medium sized herbivores and the stale dung of larger prey met his senses. It was clear that there weren’t any threatening predators currently in the vicinity, of course Curi and Scarlet could just be upwind of these threats.

Curi peered over the edge of his branch, the tree itself was of an unknown to him, but he could tell it was old and sturdy enough for him and his rider to sit on. The rushed flight they had seemed to take quite a lot from him, but with enough rest the Deviant would be as good as new. This made it a good time to do a bit of exploration and learning of the local wild life. Perhaps he would find something that was similar to any of the creatures from his destroyed world. A nice juicy Kelbi would hit the spot, but he wasn’t here for just a meal, he was here for a challenge a good ole hunt.

Taking the time to look around and sniff about quietly with slow but decisive movements Curi took in the rest of his surroundings. It was just like what Kev had shown him. It was home, but not quite. The trees were thicker and seemed to be different from the species he knew of. The markings on them were definitely new to him, but the stories they told of what had landed there or what had happened were just as easy to read as it was back home. A claw mark here, a few punctures there told a story of how something tiny evaded a winged predator’s claws. Or multiple sets of hoof prints frantically spread out and over lapped with large canine prints showed a lone wolf taking a chance on a herd of medium herbivores. It was nice to be back in the woods.

With a purr of content the beast soundlessly climbed to over the branches, his movements were well practiced to easily judge if a branch would hold his weight. As an ambush predator it was a must to be silent and know your prey, from where they go to what they eat. His keen eyes easily spotted a brown furry rump with a short white dripped tail, it was large enough to be considered as prey, but he knew not of what it was. He could see it was the same body shape as an Anteka, but it seemed to have a more spread out set of antlers that ended in forward pointing spikes. Perhaps his rider would know?

Once they'd made a run for it out of the Sanctuary, the flight was...quite peaceful, all things considered. Enough so that, until they were passing the lake and Lochlann, she was simply watching the scenery pass by. The twinge of fear that her mount was feeling, the rider was feeling as well. Though, there was a bit of something else mixed in. Was she...grateful? Hm...is that what that was? Weird. A devious smirk returned to her lips after they'd passed Diablo's domain and headed towards the mountains.

Ironically, the forest they were gliding over was far more comfortable for the knight than normal civilization ever made her feel. It was part of why she often fled into the woods back home when she was feeling down, or hurt. For as familiar as it felt...it was also brand new, waiting for them.

Once Curiosity landed in the trees, he was met with gentle pets behind an ear from his companion as they scouted the situation around them. He was surprisingly well practiced at navigating the trees; for a moment, she wondered what sort of land he had come from. Though, her ruby-hued eyes settled on the wildlife at nearly the same time his own had, and a pleasantly surprised smirk settled onto her lips. "...So, they have deer here, too." She mused darkly. Curi seemed...a bit confused, but intrigued from what she could tell. "I know for a fact that those are edible. Though...be careful of the antlers." The knight was prepared to dismount if it seemed like he'd be pouncing on them. After all, he would likely hunt more efficiently without having to worry about her falling off.

Curiosity and Scarlet weren't the only hunters in these woods. Like stretching one's muscles or practicing a skill, it was important for a werewolf to indulge in the hunt. Ariana preferred snacking on a rabbit or a young deer over feasting on some poor citizen. The woman was careful, keeping her hunts to a manageable level. She was just one wolf, after all! Nobody was being hunted to extinction out here. With an extra pair of clothes and simple supplies stashed away in a bag, the woman had easily shifted into her wolf form. All that was left behind were ripped garments and shredded strips of skin. Great paws carried her through the forest, bounding over fallen trees and ducking beneath bushes. Yellow eyes glinted with excitement! She could already smell something nearby, had to be a deer!

Following the scent, Ariana crouched low beneath a bush to observe her possible prey. A deer, a buck at that. She eyed the antlers worriedly. Hm...he might be too healthy, too strong. Perhaps if she had a pack, but as a lone wolf? Her chances were better with a fawn or something old and sickly. Tail drooping, she abandoned this hunt. Leaves shuffled beneath her paws as the werewolf began to leave, but she paused as she smelled something new. Something...different! Something Ariana had never encountered before. With it came the smell of a human, but it was quite small compared to the creature. Her head craned, spying something lurking in the trees! It was far too big for comfort. Anxiety crawled its way up Ariana's spine as she flattened herself on the forest floor. It must have come for the buck! Maybe if she was lucky, it wouldn't notice her?

The wind shifted throwing the beast’s scent south perpendicular from the regal looking stag and its healthy herd, but a hushed rustling of the undergrowth drew his attention. Something else was here watching the deer, as Scarlet had called it. Curi surveyed the grown beneath his great tree, nightmarish red eyes drinking in the details picking out what seems out of place. Much like canines, Nargacuga’s heavily relied on smell and movement to locate their prey, but unlike them they had the advantage of the trees. When paired with night sharpened vision night became day and day stayed mostly very bright.

Though his brightly striped fur would easily stand out when in a clearing, with the cover of the trees and shadows the large beast was almost invisible. Being fresh from the large settlement he carried the scent of the city under his wyverian scent. He peered at the herd, trying to single a morsel out of their oblivious group. At this point the wind shifted again this time another scent was blown in. -‘Fur... canine... female.. hunter... ??? drool... city?’ The stampeding of hooves broke him out of his analysis, the herd had fled. Something had spooked them probably a pack of predators from the scent, and soon to be dinner... or was it lunch?

A low rumbling growl escaped him as he spotted what looked like a large lump of brown furry log with an oddly shaped branch. Stepping closer he saw its ears and nose, then he smiled his murderous smile, much like a certain vampire would(not that he knew that). In truth that smile needed improvement as it was hard to decipher if he intended on killing you or if was just trying to show he was happy. In this case it seemed to be both, and with this curse hanging over their heads having a collar wouldn’t stop this Deviant. Not after it scared off its meal, not it’s become his meal.

With no warning for his rider or the hiding lump of fur the, Nargacuga limped down on the canine expecting it to dodgeaway in time before swinging his spiked tail at it. If any of his attacks made contact, it would make running away difficult as the beast would have her sent. A good warm up for larger prey seemed to be a good idea and this creature through tiny compared to himself look like she might give him a good run.

Scarlet hadn't noticed they were not the only hunters lurking about for this herd. Honestly, she was simply happy to see something familiar to her world, finally. It wasn't until her companion began to growl that she sensed something amiss, and her eyes began to dart around, searching for the cause. Hmm...that... A wolf? Hm. The knight still hadn't come to possess anything to defend herself with, so she quickly plucked a long, sturdy branch from nearby that had already broken, holding it similarly to a lance upon the nargacuga's back.

And just in time, because without warning her, Curiosity began to move. Rapidly.

It was the first time she'd really been on his back during an attack, but...it was surprisingly comfortable for her. Perhaps training with Bianka had paid off, after all. Granted...a horse-sized wolf and Curiosity were two VERY different beings. Although, watching him hit...a surge of adrenaline began coursing through Scarlet's veins.

The decision took only a matter of moments, but in a swift motion, she launched the tree limb at the predator like a javelin, a sinister smirk playing on her lips.

Whatever the creature in the trees was, Ariana couldn't see anything beyond a vague outline of a body and two blood red eyes. Every instinct in her bone pointed to this being a foe of some kind. Whether due to her presence or the creature's, the herd scattered like dust in the wind. Little hooves pounded the dirt as the fur along Ariana's scruff rose up in response to the growling. Damn, those would have been a great distraction! Now...it was just her and the beast. Out of some vain hope, the wolf remained still as a statue until the beast leapt into action. Perhaps she hoped he'd lose interest. Perhaps she hoped he'd take off after the deer. There were no such hopes to be found here, tonight.

Once the beast came down upon her, Ariana jumped out of the way of its body and avoiding being crushed under it! She did not, however, dodge the tail that came her way like a spiky club. FWUMP! The wolf landed on the ground with a heavy thump and a harsh whimper. Blood dribbled through her fur where the spikes had pierced skin. She barely had time to react before a tree limb smacked into her like an improvised javelin! A yelp sounded, louder than the whimper, as she turned her gaze upwards! The creature seemed to be a strange dragon bird hybrid, and of all things, there was a person riding on its back! A seemingly normal human with a sinister smirk on her face. What in the fresh hell...?

Shaking herself like a wet dog, Ariana picked herself up and bared white, sharp fangs. She wasn't a stranger to people trying to hunt her down, but this was the first time she'd been chased and attacked by a giant beast instead of a typical hunting dog! Well, they'd made the first strike. And like Hell was Ariana going to just let them kill her and skin her, or whatever it was these sorts do! She leapt into action with a threatening growl, aiming for the tendons of Curiosity's front leg. Her teeth came down with no remorse or regret, attempting to rip and tear through important muscle. His neck was far to high up for her to get just yet, but if she could make him topple over...! Her jaws clicked with a fierce determination. Once satisfied with her 'mauling', the wolf took a sharp right to hide behind nearby trees.

    “Prrrr....”

The female's whimpers of pain and surprise were music to his keen ears, as he watched his rider's well aimed stick hit its mark. The pseudowyvern purred watching the little predator yelp and shake off such attacks intrigues him, as did her fighting spirit. As she snarled at him with her clean white canines he replied with his own kind of snarl and snapped his beakmaw at the air, a show of power to intimidate her. It didn't seem to phase her too much as she lunged at him, snapping for his forepaw. The brown fluffy female thing was too slow for this born predator, as he raised the paw she tried to take a bite out of. The sound of her strong jaws snapping at the air amused the beast as he watched her duck away behind some trees. Silly morsel, trees won't stop a curse raging Nargacuga, their wings were built for slicing through trees and vines a like and the trees she choose didn't look too thick to feel resistance from.

Curi sniffed at his tail tip, the bright red droplets of blood her contrasted his white tail fur and spikes, she won't be getting away. Rising on his haunches the Deviant face where the female had run off to and let out a deafening roar, a notably excited and out right challenging the mammal. With her blood he had her scent, not to mention she did leave a light trail of blood from his previous attack. Passing Scarlet's makeshift spear, the beast hoped up into the trees and stealthily followed the bidding prey's trail, his claws barely made any sound as they sank into the bark. With all his years of practicing such a trick, it had indeed paid off to further enhance his stealth in his surroundings. His tail twitched ready and waiting for him to spot its latest hardy fuzzy victim.

Drawing closer to the concentrated smell of blood, the Silverwind clung to the the bark of the tree and silently made his way down its tall trunk. He was literally parallel to the bark and clinging upside down over where his prey might be, curse her bark brown fur for blending in nicely with the flora. Curi could tell that the creature he hunted was near, he could smell her blood and nearly hear her heart rapidly pumping with either excitement or fear. Wasn't this exciting? A new creature for you to learn about and play hide and seek with? Did it not excite her? It sure was getting the beast's blood pumping as well as his adrenaline. Hopefully his rider was either clinging to him for dear life or found a safe place to watch.

Again without warning he struck pounces down beside what he thought was his prey and whipping around in a classic 360 spin that most pseudowyverns of his world loved to do. As a Deviant Nargacuga this not only sent spikes shooting out of him but a wave of Cutting Gale to hopefully once more rip into his prey.

As the wolf went back on the attack, the knight's eyes narrowed. Interesting... She'd pegged it for simply a wild animal; but this one...lashed out in retaliation, after a show of dominance from Curiosity, and had tried to disable him before fleeing. Perhaps it was another intelligent animal, like her companion? At the very least, while he was moving into position, she was able to retrieve her broken branch.

Once Curiosity scaled the tree to watch for the wolf, she carefully dismounted; the branch was sturdy enough to use as a vantage point, so long as he didn't destroy the entire tree. She'd also be safe from being mauled on the ground, and he could go all out.

Which he seemed to do once he'd spotted her. She'd never seen him behave like this. He was spinning violently, and with that tail, the knight would've been surprised to see anything alive afterward. Even so, she was still, waiting quietly in the trees with a dark, amused grin settled on her face. The thrill of the hunt was not lost on Scarlet either, by any means.

The attempt at intimidation did little to sway her, but it did help Ariana to identify the kind of mouth this creature possessed. A...beak? Definitely birdlike. Had this creature always been lurking in the woods with his human companion? Or was it a new arrival? Whatever the case, this beast was strong and not to be taken lightly. It was smart enough to raise its paw from her reach. How embarrassing...! Her ears pinned flat against her skull as she ducked for cover behind the tree. Panting softly, the wolf began to lick at some of the wounds she could reach. Namely, the ones on her lower back. She wouldn't get very far, leaking blood like a stuck pig!

Lapping up the blood and slowing the flow, Ariana swallowed the metallic taste thickly. Where before this beast had dropped down on her with no warning, now he was taking his time. Her soft nose wriggled, he was definitely nearby. But its movements were rather stealthy for a beast that size! Her heart fluttered in her chest as every step of a paw was taken carefully. She stuck close to the trees, ducking under a bush, trying to be stealthy as well. This was a little bit exciting, but Ariana mostly felt fear. This creature was unfamiliar, as was his rider! Would they slaughter her, if given the chance? The blood clotting to her fur indicated that they would.

Before the wolf could decide whether to try and attack again or escape, the creature dropped down from the trees once more. A pouncing predator, ambush tactics. He landed near her and began to spin! Spikes shot out of his blurring form like bullets, far too fast to evade as the force he generated was like the wind of a hurricane! Another yelp escaped her jaws as the spikes tore into her! Most of them grazed her, but one in particular had become lodged in the hindquarters! All that work to clean up some blood, and now he drew more from her. Yelps twisted into angered growls, the wolf limping as she turned her gaze to the beast! It'd be no good to take it out now, might as well leave the spike in! With a stubborn gleam in her yellow eyes, Ariana charged at the creature and attempted to slip underneath him! Her jaws snapped at his belly, and this time she did not retreat to the trees.

Yassss~ it had indeed been the thing he was looking for, his feisty prey. Shaking his head to recover from his spin, he gave an excited little roar. Moves like these just got his blood pumping, and it was always easier to hit at a large amount of space. Turning back to his bleeding prey, he smiled widely seeing the spine impaled into one of her hind legs. He had indeed hit his target, reliable as always the good ole spinning tactic.

Most tiny preys would continue to run but not this gutsy female, she was more than just fluff and flee. Not that she can flee anymore, especially with that leg. The Deviant admired her fighting spirit, it reminded him of one of his siblings. The tiniest of the clutch, she with what she lacked in size she made up with speed and ferocity.

A pair of sharp bites to his belly brought his attention out of recalling his youngest sister and back into the hunt at hand. He wasn’t used to tiny jaws doing that much damage, but luckily he would still be able to move. As soon as her jaws released him his lunched himself into the air, and quickly brought down his tail at the offender for an oh so classic tailslam. Hopefully his tail doesn’t get stuck on the undergrowth, but she had it coming. He then realized that his rider was not on his back, hopefully she hadn’t fallen off but instead found a good vantage point. The beast might not have had sired any clutches yet and now might be the last of his species, but he may want some in the future so back off the back end there pupper!

It may not seem it but his chain of attacks had taking quite a lot of energy out of him. This weakened when you arrive stuff was really starting to get on his nerves.
