    Click.. click.. click...

    “Nrrrr....”

The wary panting beast growled weakly it had tried to get comfortable by shifting his weight the side which wasn’t as painful. His breathing has become more labored after his embarrassing roar, not to mention something in his chest was just throbbing with more concentrated pain than usual. He dropped his growling to take another heavily labored breath, a sharp pain caused him to wince shutting his eyes to deal with the pain. Curi sniffed the air and opened his beakmaw to scent the air, no organic smell reached his just a slight metallic tang. His senses muttered weakly that there was an approaching figure, it couldn’t say if it was a friendly or not. As to what it was, it smelled mechanical kind of like Scaramouch but cleaner more like how this building smells.

His eyelids drooped, they felt as heavy as he felt tired, which was very. Blinking twice the beast moved to stand as much as he could with the height of the ceiling, it wasn’t very high and his scraped up paws were shaking with the effort to look intimidating. The clicking sounds of footsteps neared, it was close enough to worry about. The all too tired beast lifted his head to meet the strange eyes of a... what were they called again... robot. It had nearly the same curves as most humanoid females and wore a strange white coat with the same sign as what was outside on the building.

    “rrrrr-..”

His faint growl rumbled the his chest earring him another wince and forcing to stop. The sharp pain came from in his chest, more specifically something broken had rubbed against something rather sore. With a pained look he opened his eyes again and managed to reposition one of his wingarms near his head. The other followed as the feminine figure drew much closer. Curiosity didn’t have much room to move here so he planned to back out into the bigger area, but before he could she spoke. Her oddly calming voice made him pause to glare at her. Help? Help me? He was dying there wasn’t much one could do about that. The bot mentioned a friend of his, drawing out a low growl from the beast. Truthfully, he wished Kev was there to translate or at least tell him what a doctor was. Tulsit....

As she paused he started to move backwards, pushing with shaky forepaws and sort of wiggling his backside to squirm out of the tight hallway. He hadn’t been listening to the doctor as the echoes of pain caused by his squirming seemed to have his full attention. He only paused his painstakingly slow actions to pant and huff. The Deviant kept his eyes on the female, but if you watched his eyes closely you could tell he was fighting to keep them glaring and focused on her.

Once he had backed out enough he braced himself on his front limbs for a coughing fit, his eyes were closed as the action shook his frame and a bit of the ceiling above. The taste of his blood shouldn’t have surprised him, but it did as it really dawned on him. He was going to die. Just barely into his prime and with no one, except this female that he just met. He wasn’t even beside his chosen rider, who herself had looked like she was already on the way the great beyond from the last he saw. The coughing had taking a lot of energy out of him, causing him to sink onto the cool floor. As if on cue the beast started to shiver, from hot to freezing cold again. The beast curled up as much as he could and as carefully to keep what ever heat he had left from leaving him. The problem was that he didn’t have enough space nor enough energy than to do more than lay slightly on his side and bring his spiky blood caked tail closer to him.

Of course when he move his tail he’d forgotten about the female, who might have to dodge over it, if she had followed him, as it dragged on the floor. The nasty looking spines were erect as always, but his usually alert eyes were half closed in a glare. Blood leaked and dribbled out of his beakmaw, from the cough. He once more noticed the white coated figure. Oh she was still there. At least he didn’t need to die alone.. Haff... Haff..

Soft growling sounded from the creature, but he seemed too weak to strike out. The glare made it clear that he didn't trust her though. Dr. Salli kept her hands up in a placating manner. "You seem as if you've been put through the wringer..." Why did this being look so rough while Scarlet was merely pale and fatigued? All these gashes... Had he run into trouble on his way here? Was this the work of the demon? The robot remained still as Curiosity backed away, letting him keep distance as he wished. The beast began to cough horribly. The ceiling overhead shook with him until he tired himself out. It collapsed back onto what had once been a very sterile and clean floor. The Doctor eyed his blood, finding herself concerned over whether this 'curse' could transmit through the bloodstream... Yet another thing to be worried about. If only supernatural matters could be handled medically.

As the beast shivered, Dr. Salli ran down the list of symptoms he was showing. The coughing could be a very bad sign, and it seemed to be plagued by the chills. Definitely a fever. They couldn't possibly have enough liquid for this creature! Perhaps Shai was right and they'd have to give him a huge bowl of water. Not right now of course, he could barely hold himself up let alone lap up some water. She wasn't entirely sure if he understood what she was saying, but Salli would try again. "I can fix you and take the pain away, but you'll have to let me come close to you. All you'll feel is a little pinch! I'd rather cooperate with you, if I can. Will you let me come close so I can treat you, like I'm treating your friend?" She paused, trying to think of what would make this creature trust her more. "You must want to see your friend, Scarlet. I promise that once you both are feeling better, I will bring her out to see you. But that can't happen until you let me fix you."

Put through the wringer? What does that even mean? Whats a wringer?

The beast blinked his tired eyes slowly, glaring was taking too much effort so he settled for just watching the glowing blueish eyed Doctor. Doctor Who? He had puffed up his coat of fur hoping it would help against the temperature he felt rather than what his actual temperature was. It was just so cold like h is tail and ears would fall off any second kind of cold. It was off that his breath wasn’t showing as he panted, it would have if he was in a cold place but to here yet he still felt so cold. Speaking of temperature, his eyes felt like the were emitting waves of heat when they were open. As his kind, much like the large felines, didn’t sweat so panting no matter how painful was a must.

Curi eyed the metallic creature before him as she spoke again, he had only met a few robots in this settlement but he had seen many. She wasn’t some one he had seen before and he did like to get lost in the city, one could say that this was hist little adventure and mischief. Her voice was soothing but at the mention of being able to fix him and take this pain away she had his full attention, or what left of it. Some thing like that was between hard to believe and a very tempting offer, but he didn’t know her and as an animal that felt like he was dying it sounded too good to be true. Perhaps he should let her give it a try? If it didn’t work he hoped that this bot would put him out of his misery.

Just then the cold he felt flashed back into a hellish heat, forcing him to shut his nightmarish red eyes pant even faster and hard. In an attempt to cool down more the beast rolled on his belly and tried to spread out cross the cold hard ground. Trouble.. trouble.. trouble..

While he moved to make use of the cool floor pain from his ribs echoed around his body, forcing him to bare and grind his his teeth. Growling would have caused him more pain, he found that out the painful way just a minute ago. His ears drew back with the effort to slowly settle on his fluffy belly, which wasn’t the best idea when you have broken ribs. Then again he was desperate to relieve himself from the heat, and with the many internal pains he was already dealing with a bit more didn’t seem that much.

As soon as she mentioned cooperation and being able to see his rider again Curi weakly opened an eye, as if to gauge if she was telling the truth. Which wasn’t very smart as he was not yet well versed in robot expressions, but as he didn’t have any thing to lose he settled for looking less threatening to encourage her to step closer. Whether or not he would allow her to try medicating him is yet to be decided, but she was more than a leap closer.

The patient's behavior suddenly changed, eyes shutting tightly as he attempted to flatten himself along the floor. Panting increased, it was clear that the beast was going through some sort of agony! Dr. Salli frowned, sympathetic to his suffering. The poor creature...and poor Scarlet! What an awful curse, to put them through this pain. What was the purpose? What did the demon gain? The robot remained at a distance, but only because she did not want the creature to be scared if she were to come closer. Only when he opened his eyes did she consider coming closer.

His gaze wasn't as threatening as it had been before. Perhaps the influx of pain had influenced him to give her a shot. Nodding softly, she came one step closer. And then another, and another. As long as he did not strike out, Salli came closer and closer to him. As she did, she reached into her pocket and withdrew the vials and syringe. The liquid inside was a deep red color, and very shimmery. She held it out for him to see. "You seem to understand what I'm saying, so I think you'd want to know what I do before I do it. These are called 'nano-bots'. If I give you an injection of them, they will mend your wounds within minutes. Broken bones, stab wounds, organ damage... It will all be fixed. You may still feel weak and sluggish afterwards. You need water, and rest. But this will help the pain. Will you allow me to treat you with this?" A fully informed patient was a happy patient, after all.

    “Trrrr....”

He watched her slowly take each step closer to him until she stood right before his panting beakmaw. Feeling the floor change temperature due to his body he, he shifted himself to the side to find a cooler part of the floor. This time he was on his side, eyes barely opened to watch the metallic being as she spoke about the shimmery red liquid looking substance in she held up vial. He huff snorted, clearly starting to get comically impatient even for how injured he was.

Not time for explaining... nice to know...

Then he noticed the other thing she was holding, the sharp device that he didn’t think would get passed through his thick hide. The Deviant wondered if that’s how she meant to administer the real liquid and would the contents of that small vial be enough to fix him up?

His fluffy cheek was a decent pillow but with his constant panting he had actually stoped caring if his tongue lolled out of his beakmaw. Just how did this doctor plan on administering this miracle? His tail curled up to his chest, just in case. Curi nodded weakly, he was barely able to move his head as it may interrupt his panting. Such a tiny vial is it going to be enough to do as she explained to save his life?

Again the creature shifted, now on his side like an injured dog. His eyes were barely open, lids revealing a mere sliver of the eyeball within. Poor thing... The huff-snort was almost comical, as if he were urging her to get on with it! Dr. Salli winced, offering him a sheepish smile. Right, perhaps now wasn't the best time for a teaching lesson! The beast curled up, tongue lolling out and looking for all the world like an animal on its last legs. Now was the time for action.

Holding the syringe at the ready, Dr. Salli approached one of the beast's forearms and...! Tink.

"..." Glancing between the creature's hide and her needle, Salli attempted to pierce his skin with the needle again. Narrowing her optics like a microscope, she was surprised to find that she simply couldn't break the skin! "What in the world...?" After a couple more attempts, she pulled the syringe back with a small frown. "If I can't even break your skin with this, then whatever has damaged you so must have been strong." All the better to heal him before he bled out, but how...? There was a minor delay as the robot fished through her pockets for alternative needles to attach to the syringe. Finally, she found one made of diamond! Never underestimate the supplies the hospital could get. "I'm sorry, hopefully this will do the trick!" She soothed, pulling the simple metal needle off and replacing it with the diamond. Trying this out once again, she aimed the needle for his forearm...and breathed a sigh of relief when it pierced his hide. The nanobots were injected into his system, aside from the prick of the needle, Curi would feel no pain. Merely the odd sensation of something entering the bloodstream. For such a large creature, it would take a few minutes for him to be repaired. The nanobots would start with the gashes, healed skin pushing out splinters and debris to clatter onto the hospital floor. Only once these external wounds were healed, would they move to the internal injuries.

As she approached he braced himself to feel the pinch she spoke of. He kept his eyes closed out of being tired rather than how the squeamish get at the sight of a needle. At the moment pain was an indicator that he was alive and fighting for survival. Of course the pressure of the moment and the build up of apprehension would make most people over think a tiny syringe, this beast was currently doing that.

    “Hrrrrnnn....”

    Tink...... Tink....

The beast’s opened a tired eye to what the doctor was doing, or well why she was poking his scale covered wingarm. Tink... His second eye opened to watch her, an amused expression shamelessly sprawled on his pain stricken face. Was trying to find a spot to insert the vial in? Or trying to tickle him? With the confusion that seemed to be cover her face he deduced that she couldn’t get the pointy thing into his arm. Perhaps she was scared of hurting him further with too much pressure ?

    Tink..Tink....Tiiiinnnnkk......

    “Trrr.. trrr.. trrr-...hsssss....”

The beast’s tail curled and uncurled, clearly it was just as amused if not laughing passed all the pain he was in. Laughter was indeed the best medicine, but in this case it was a double edged blade. Curi winced feeling a sharp stabbing pain in his chest, his amused laughter had nudged a broken rib. By the time he opened his nightmarish red eyes the doctor had fished out a different looking needle. It was oddly translucent and looked much more fragile than the metal ones, so the heavily injured deviant thought nothing of it. I mean it was a lot thinner, pointier, WHOA!

The dying nargacuga’s eyes widened, his breathing had also stop, watching the needle point slip through a pair of scales where the previous needles had bent and snapped at. The only indication of him still being alive was the beating of his faint heart. He had never seen anything so sharp and strong that just slipped right through his battle hardened hide, especially his scales!

When hunters fought him their attacks mostly bounced off, it was always fun to watch their expressions of determination crack at the fact it was harder that usual to cut him. Bullets ricocheted, blades bounced, and everything else just missed.

It was an unusual feeling, many thing so tiny and alive getting inserted into you. At first it was an odd light buzzing feeling as if they were spreading to access the damage he had received. Then more frantic vibrations that gather towards the external wounds, the gash on his chest had a more concentrated feeling compared to his lesser cuts and scraps.  Before their very eyes the wound started to seal itself shut, the debris and wood pieces that got lost in him found their way out and just dropped off him. The caped crusader would be happy to know that the tracking device he had attached to the beast still hung on. As the intruders clattered on the ground the deviant remembered he needed to breath so he got right back into his steady panting.

The curse’s control over the temperature switch was still active. From the hellfire heat into a sudden tundra blizzard. Curi moves slowly to carefully curl up in his given space, to his surprise he was able to watch his torn wings slowly but surely regenerate. The sky was his playground once more, perhaps when this was all over and done with he could... nahh maybe Curi will stick to the ground for a while longer. That fall was no joke.

    ”Prrrrrrrrrrrrrrr....”

It took a while for his external injuries to heal completely, by then the beast was t as amused and had decided to thank the metallic woman. He gently leaned his head against her, an unmistakeable gesture of thanks, though he was still shivering from the phantom cold. He dare or moved too much the dehydration had set in and everything was starting to go black and blurry. Not to mention that he was beyond dizzy and tired. The real problem now was could he keep anything down in his belly yet?

Amusement from the beast made Dr. Salli all the more embarrassed. Still, she'd rather he find the experience funny than get upset and push her away! Breaking needles was troublesome to begin with. It was especially difficult when you couldn't even pierce the skin of your patient! She sorted away this information to a section of her processor, urging herself to remember this detail about this creature should he reappear for medical assistance in the future. At last, the diamond needle tip seemed to do the trick! Filing that away for future reference as well, the robot noticed her patient's reaction. A hand settled atop his paw, giving it a light stroke in an attempt to reassure him.

"You're okay, just breathe..." The sight of his wounds mending and the wooden splinters falling out was a major relief. They weren't quite out of the woods, of course. There were many internal injuries to be healed, and if this beast was anything like Scarlet? He was still incredibly dehydrated and feverish. Were there any IV drips large enough to properly hydrate him? And the needle would need to be diamond again... Dr. Salli sighed to herself, attempting to make a game plan for treating this latest patient, but was distracted by movement from said patient. His head reached towards her's, leaning in a way that was unmistakably affectionate. It brought a smile to her face, and the robot gave a pet down the length of his beakmaw. "I'm glad you're feeling better." Though, how to handle things from here?

By the time the nanobots began to turn inwards, the break in bones would be knitted together and mended like a clay sculpture being reattached. The process was slower than the gashes, but just as painless. Curi's injured lung would be mended around the same time as well, making breathing easier for him. "Your injuries are being mended, but you're not quite back to 100%. I can get you a blanket, keep you covered and warm... You will need much rest, like your friend. You're dehydrated, but I don't think you'll be able to keep down any water..." Not after all the vomit she'd both seen on him and been informed of for Scarlet's case. "I may have a way to help you become re-hydrated, but I will need to be by your side." He'd need a lot more IV bags than Scarlet... And yet, it made Salli feel better to make a plan and talk it out with her patient. One way or another, she was going to help him through this. She had to. It was her prime directive!

    ”Prrrrrrrrrrrrrrr....”

Though her hand was cold he purred as much as his lungs let him, by the end it it was just a light vibration. Her voices was indeed soothing, likely whoever designed her was aiming for that kind of effect. A voice with a calming and reassuring nature would be most effective when they needed to get the injured to comply or behave themselves. Curi’s eyes shut as he basked in her voice, he could hardly listen or even understand her at the moment. The dehydration was making his really dizzy and tired. The only word that he seemed to catch was ‘rest’. That was a good idea, and something this beast didn’t seem to have much of a say in.

He had been fighting it since entering the sanctuary, something all living creatures must do. An action that inhibited most being’s productivity through out the day and caused great or terrible effects on ones health. Sleep. Now that he was on the clear of death’s door and the Silverwind knew that his rider as well as himself were in reliable hands he relaxed. It started with his paws and tail, they seemed to curl a little closer then go slowly limp in relaxation. His breathing, thanks to the nanobots as she called them, had slowed in pace and became much easier. The nightmare red eyes slowly closed, the seem the most reluctant. Normally he was a light sleeper, but with all the going’s one of the day he was dead tired.

The beast barely felt the shifting of his guts as the little bots repaired his ribs and internal organs. The blood that filled his lung returned back into his veins. Before he knew it had set his head on the cool ground on her well polished sanitary foot. His breathing evened out as he sunk deeper into sleep. What ever she had planned he was game for it, even if that meant having to wake up and move around. Moving his beakmaw around or opening it can prove a little difficult but it was doable while it’s wonder was asleep.

Listen to that. The huffing and grumbling had faded away, and now this creature was purring like an oversized cat! The vibrations of it were just as soothing to her. It wasn't often that she treated patients like this beast, but Dr. Salli was happy all the same that he was in much better spirits now. A fond smile on her face, she continued to stroke his maw as if he were her own lap cat. Bit by bit, he relaxed and curled his extremities closer to himself. Blood red eyes fluttered closed, and her patient was drifting into dreamland! Hardly a perfect night, but with both patients recovering nicely? It was difficult to argue with the results.

Satisfied, Salli made to move and grab supplies, but found herself hindered. Glancing down, the robot deduced the culprit. So eager for sleep, her patient had decided to rest his sizable chin upon her foot! The experience wasn't painful, she was a robot after all. But she could hardly gather supplies or check on Scarlet while pinned like this... Should she risk waking him? Should she just slip the foot right off her ankle and reattach it later? "Hm..."

An idea came to the Doctor, remembering her fellow Doctor. Searching her internal contacts and saved information of the employees, Salli searched for Shai's files and found his cell phone number. Sending a quick message his way, the gynoid continued stroking Curi's head as she waited for a response.

'Shai, how is Scarlet Eldred? Is she still in stable condition, or regained consciousness? Scarlet's friend was indeed here, we're in the waiting room. He was in bad condition but after an injection of nanobots, he's recovering. He has...regrettably fallen asleep on my foot. If Scarlet is stable, could you gather several sheets, prepare an IV drip, grab as many IV bags as you can, and bring them all to me? If you're not comfortable leaving Scarlet's side, I have a backup plan.'

Shai's feathery crest perked up as he heard a ping on his phone. He pulled it out of his pocket, looking down to see that his fellow doctor had just messaged him. Fell asleep on her foot, huh? Yeah, that definitely sounded like Curi alright. He looked back at the resting Scarlet before responding.

'I think I might have seen her smile a bit at the sound of her companion's roaring earlier. With that in mind, I'd say that she's pretty much stabilized. I could probably leave her side right now without causing any harm to her. Would I be correct in assuming that you need the strongest needles that we have on hand? I don't think that his flesh looks very easy to penetrate with just a regular needle.'

Once the avian doctor had his confirmation, he got right to gathering the listed supplies. Carrying them all at once was no easy task, but he managed somehow. Eventually, he came across Salli and the recovering nargacuga. It really was a sight to behold.

"Seriously, could you imagine if Floyd was here right now?" That poor nurse. It was obviously that he's seen... things in this hospital. "Anyways, do you think this is enough?"

At the distinct sound of footsteps, the instinctual urge to wake was strong enough to overpower the beast’s exhaustion. It was only natural for his kind to wake even any approaching being, no hunter could get the jump on a tree sleeping Nargacuga. It is only when a predator or hunter get close enough that they learn that one does not simply sneak up on a Narga. Curi’s kind was the embodiment of shadows and dubbed ninjas of the deep ancient forests.

    ”Rrrr....”

A nightmare red eye peered at the approaching burdman, the taker of his rider. Since he hadn’t seen a single strand of her raven black hair, the mount felt it was like a kidnapping. Not to mention he’d been left behind to deal with the purging of his curse alone. If it wasn’t for the women in the Sanctuary he would have suffocated on his own vomit and died. That was no death worthy for a proud beast. Death through combat seemed the way to go, especially if it was being bested by some one worthy.

Curi couldn’t bring himself to do anymore than glare and growl. The internal healing process had already begun, he could feel the slow moving sensation as well as the warm vibration of the nanobotes mending. Even if he could move it would have been hard to return to the comfortable position he was in now. Something under his fuzzy chin kept him at the perfect angle, if he moved he might lose it. Not to mention that the Doctor was still stroking to top part of his head. He like that more than beakmaw petting, most people didn’t seem to know that. It was an honest mistake.

'That is correct. The diamond tipped one, if you can find it.'

Shai's response was a relief. Dr. Salli relaxed, taking some degree of comfort in the simple and repetitive action of stroking her patient's fluffy skull. Was this what it was like for organics who owned pets? Obviously, their pets were smaller. But the experience of something falling asleep on her, of tenderly petting something so warm and fuzzy... The gynoid was beginning to understand why so many people loved owning animal companions. She was so engrossed in the affection that she almost didn't realize the other Doctor was approaching! Her gaze lifted off of Curiosity and onto the bird, who'd gathered everything she needed.

Thinking of the devoted nurse, the robot laughed softly. "If Floyd was here, he'd be terrified for a time, and then beg to ride him. Probably throwing in references to a movie of some kind while he was at it." Spoiler alert; The Neverending Story is what he would have referenced. Her bright blue optics took note of the supplies Shai had gathered. Eventually, she nodded. "Yes, I think that will be enough." The sound of the growl made Salli glance down at her patient. The sound must have woken him up, and he didn't seem to be in the best of moods. Not that she could blame him...

With a soft frown, the Doctor raised her gaze again to look at Shai. "Shai, Curiosity arrived here in very bad health. Scarlet looked as if she were dying, but I think he might actually have died if he hadn't come. Why did you leave him in the Sanctuary in such a condition...? I don't expect you to carry him, but you could have called me in to help you transport both of our patients here."

Shaiamils tilted his head at the weary nargacuga, confused and concerned. Why was he growling at him? Had he inadvertently done something wrong? The doctor's feathery crest lowered at the thought. To think that he might have very well gone through all that effort to become friends with the beast only for him to suddenly decide that he hates him.

"It's been a bad night altogether," the feathery alien explained. "While I was carrying Scarlet here, I had Anjeet and Nyreena try to clean him off and get him to drink some water. You probably saw those nasty wounds of his. I was concerned about them possibly getting infected, and I wasn't sure how many doctors would be available to assist with both him and Scarlet this late at night, so I tried to get her here first, and then get the harder part out of the way. As you can see, though, Scarlet's companion here must have gotten away from Anjeet and Nyreena before I could get back to him."

He sighed, feeling increasingly guilty about the whole thing.

"I was hoping that maybe we could bring the nano-bots to him at the Sanctuary after dropping Scarlet off, but this guy's about as loyal as it gets. Clearly he couldn't stand to be away from Scarlet for even that long."

Not too convinced about the burdman’s reasoning the healing beast gave a snort. Shai is going to need to do a lot bribing and scratchy-scratchies to get back in his good side. A monster can’t eat sorries and reasoning, animals tend to prefer more digestible ways of receiving an apology, even for some near death experiences. If anyone has had a pet before they would know exactly how to win back their affection and friendship, but not every animal is alike.

Taking a deep unlabored breath Curi let out a deep sigh, like most of his pains and worries got exhaled right out of him. The dehydration which had set in made it infinitely harder for him to keep awake any longer, so he gave the featherbrain one last sidelong glare before shutting his eyes. Curi shifted his head a bit as if trying to get more comfy or deeper on his metallic pillow, before giving in to sleep completely. With how tired he was the poor healing nargacuga’s jaw slacked allowing his darkpink tongue to slip out just a bit. Blep~

Though he hasn’t seen if Scarlet was ok yet, the deviant trusted his Doctor as she has proven herself the be skilled in her craft as well as resourceful in a difficulty situation. Since she had told him that they had treated his rider and she was on the road to recovery he relaxed and drifted into a deep recovering slumber. As he slept his deep resonating purrs could be heard echoing softly around the ground floor. Some studies show that purring from a cat purring has a soothing and calming effect, not to mention it vibrations have positive effects like in some cases healing. So a gigantic sleeping black cat with many deadly bits could easily help patients with his slumerpurring.

    ”Prrrrrrrrrrrrzzzzzz....”
