    Afternoon Watch

Post by Kyoko Sakura on Tue Jul 10, 2018 7:04 pm

    Time: 5:45 PM
    Date: July 10, 0009

Boy, time ticked right on by sometimes. Springtime had shifted to summer, the heat increasing as the sun bounced about obnoxiously in the sky! Kyoko shook her head, a hand sweeping the long ponytail away from the back of her neck. Wind tickled at the nape of her neck, adding some relief as it dried the collecting sweat. Phew! Maybe she was overdue for a haircut? Such long hair was proving to be rather annoying in this heat! A cherry snow cone held firmly in her other hand, the teenager chomped down on the shaved ice eagerly. The outer district around her was as dirty and sketchy as it always was. The redhead gave a few grunts of acknowledgement to some of the usual people as she passed by, vagrants who tended to stick to their own corners to panhandle.

Ever since Homura had left to find Madoka, it'd been all on Kyoko to keep the outer district witch-free! Getting to keep all of the Grief Seeds for herself was nice, but she'd be lying if she said she didn't miss having Homura to hunt witches with. Well...at least Kyoko was used to being alone! This wasn't new or anything... The shaved ice crunched loudly as she worked on her snow cone, tilting the cardboard cone back to drink melted cherry flavored syrup. "Mm!" The teen licked her lips, which were colored a bright red along with her tongue. There didn't seem to be any witches about to hatch, but she might as well stick around just in case! As Kyoko stepped over to a brick wall to claim a spot, she balled the cardboard cone inside of her fist. She slipped it into a trash can as she passed by it, then dried her hands onto her own jacket. Once satisfied, the magical girl leaned her hip against the brick as she gathered up her long red hair. She tied it up into a messy bun and sighed happily, embracing the sensation of wind freely blowing upon her neck. "Thaaat's better!" What a relief!

The outer district was full of degenerates, drug-addicts, miscreants and vagrants. Not all were bad who lived out here, but most enjoyed the lack of surveillance from the ISOs in the main portions of the city to do as they pleased. It was deplorable, but there was little most could do, or cared to do. Thankfully(?), Springtrap was now wandering the ghetto streets with a large pack of dogs nearly every night, searching for deviants who dared to harm other animals openly or decided to try and stand up to the animatronic... most conveniently "disappearing" after such confrontations.

Luckily for Kyoko, she wasn't on Springtrap's 'kill list'. The red-haired teen was, in fact, well received by him, mostly for her actual kindness and concern for his well being when he nearly froze in the snow. They wouldn't have crossed paths today had not the twoChihuahuas wandered the streets by themselves and smelled the girl a street away. The faint scent of something sweet and fruity tickled their tiny noses, their more burly companion sticking close to their animatronic leader. The fluffier of the two small dogs trotted off to find the source of the scent, the other soon following behind their sibling. The rottweiler huffed as the two ran from sight and bumped against Springtrap to alert him of what happened.

"aw fuck" he squinted, following after them albeit slowly. He wasn't terribly concerned as they were smart, but he worried more about someone finding and taking them. "get the fuck back here"

The pair soon found Kyoko, sniffing at her feet and wagging their tails hoping for a treat that was long gone. The rottweiler came into view and huffed at Kyoko's presence, but did little else. Mostly stared, tilted their head and sniffed from a distance, and once Springtrap come up from behind them, they huffed at him in response. "Hff!" their jowls puffed up at the action, alerting the animatronic that they had found the others. "there you are"

They also found the red-haired girl.

An odd noise emitted from Springtrap as he struggled to recall her name or why she looked familiar, similar to a console skipping a disc, until he 'blinked' and realized. "oh -- you are -- the miscreant" The pair circled her ankles like tiny furry sharks. "quit begging for fucks sake" A snap of his digits and the two yipped in surprise, heading back over to him and the other dog but continued to watch Kyoko, hoping there was a hidden treat on her person.

"afternoon" the rabbot awkwardly stated, rubbing the back of his head a bit.

Lips and tongue still dyed from the cherry syrup, Kyoko smiled to herself lazily as she glanced around her surroundings. Dilapidated buildings with graffiti and broken windows, a sidewalk that could use a scrub, and people that were obviously down on their luck. It made the pair of pooches stick out even more! The teen raised an eyebrow, expecting the little dogs to go to a trash can and search for scraps. She was taken aback when they made their way over to Kyoko of all people! They sat down at her feet and stared up, tails a-wagging. Pushing off the wall, she looked left and right before kneeling down. The redhead took notice of a large rottweiler nearby that seemed to be watching her, giving it a brief stare before turning back to the small beggars. "You two sure know how to introduce yourselves to a girl!" One hand reached out to pet them while the other dug around in her jacket pocket for some food. These dogs looked well taken care of for a pair of Outer District mutts!

"oh -- you are -- the miscreant"

Eh? Kyoko raised her gaze to where the rottweiler had been, now joined by a familiar animatronic. "Miscreant, huh? I like that!" Smirking to herself, the teen was slightly disappointed when the dogs heeded their owner's orders and returned to the robotic rabbit. Their beady little eyes were still trained on herself, obviously still eager for food. She didn't disappoint! Her hand was pulled out of her jacket pocket, revealing a taiyaki wrapped up in a napkin. "It's okay, I don't mind sharing. 'S long as you don't mind. This should be safe for them." She wiggled the fish shaped treat, the smell of fried pancake in the air.

"Afternoon!" The redhead chirped back, quite cheerful and a lot less awkward than Springtrap. She waited for his permission to feed the dogs, busying herself by nibbling the fins of the fried treat. "So, these are your dogs?" Well, that went without saying, but still. The guy didn't exactly seem like the pet owning type! From the two pipsqueaks to the rather sturdy rotty to their robotic owner, she gave them each a reddened smile. "I like 'em!"

Post by Springtrap on Tue Jul 17, 2018 11:33 pm

No child was ever in a place like this without some form of somewhat devious intent. Though, looking her up and down, maybe she was up to suspicious do-nothings. That being, doing nothing suspicious and just wandering around. Not the smartest choice in places to do so, but that was neither here nor there.

The two small dogs sat perfectly still even when their tails wagged quickly and noses twitched at the scent of the taiyaki, whatever that was, in the girl's hand. She offered them some, and assured him it was safe for them to eat. Springtrap's optics 'squinted' as if trying to decipher whatever that thing was made of, but he had no such ability to scan, and knew very little about food other than pizza, sodas and cakes. This was definitely some form of cake, though, that much he knew. "you may share a little" he stated before adding "but keep most of the aquatic craniate-shaped foodsnack for yourself" Kyoko's kindness did not go unnoticed, but it was still best for them to not wander off and beg to every person they met with food. Some just weren't as nice.

"yes" was his answer to the dog question. "they are only a quarter of my pack" Which was probably the wrong measurement, but when one's processors were filled with God-knows-what and rust, it made everything slow down to potato speeds. "the sentiment appears to be reciprocal" Springtrap added, looking down as the two Chihuahua's stepped forward for their piece of snack. The rottweiler didn't seem that interested, perhaps too wary of the situation. A dirtied robotic hand was placed upon their head and gave a pat of encouragement, but the burly dog refused to move, and instead watched the others and Kyoko carefully.

"this place is not one of joy and wonder child"

    "you are not normal but"

    "it is still dangerous"

Springtrap remembered a little bit of when he last met Kyoko; half-frozen and lost in the city, she was the only person to come up and actually assist him by waking him up and getting back on his feet. With that, she had more trust than others did, but with all organics, she was still seen with some suspicion and paranoia... but to a lesser degree.

"Okay!" That was agreeable to the teenager! Still kneeling, Kyoko broke off a few of the edges where she'd nibbled. Bean paste might be safe for them! Seeing how these weren't her dogs, though, she decided to play it safe and give the dogs pieces of fried dough that hadn't touched the paste. "Whoa, only a quarter?" She glanced up, curious as she took note of the dogs that were there right now. A quarter was...one fourth! So there were three times this many doggies in total! "Lucky! My parents wouldn't let me have any pets, let alone a whole pack of 'em!" How cool was that?! The redhead seemed to grin even more when Springtrap pointed out that the dogs seemed to like her too! Well, maybe not the big rottweiler. She was still a stranger to him. But the two little ones definitely liked her!

Kyoko smiled as she fed the two of them, holding the bits of taiyaki for them to eat out of her hand. The feeling of their little tongues lapping for their treats made her giggle. Once they're nibbled up every crumb of their treat, she decided to give them each a pat on their fuzzy little skulls. The rottweiler would still need some convincing, but she was happily to pet the little doggies.

"this place is not one of joy and wonder child"

    "you are not normal but"

    "it is still dangerous"

She glanced up, and just as quickly returned her gaze to the asphalt. "I know." Kyoko didn't exactly see a reason to lie to him, but the circumstances around her and the witches could be hard to understand. And especially since she was the last active magical girl here...it was even more important for her to be here. Frowning to herself, the teen took another chomp of her taiyaki before deciding to elaborate. "There's some...bad stuff in the outer district. One of the bad things is... from my world. Since I'm not normal, I have to hunt them down and kill 'em. Or else something bad will happen to me. So thanks for caring but... Dangerous or not, I gotta be here." The redhead had long ago come to terms with how dangerous her job was, the threat of death always lingering above her head. The threat of becoming a witch also lingered over her, and she wasn't sure which was worse.

Breaking off another fin to feed the chihuahuas, Kyoko abruptly changed the subject back to Springtrap. "So, do these guys live in your stronghold with you?"

Post by Springtrap on Fri Jul 20, 2018 9:46 pm

The girl was very excited to hear that the animatronic had gathered many dogs, and mentioned that she was not allowed one in her own home, most likely prior to coming here. How sad, he thought, but animals were a large responsibility and most children from what he had seen weren't really up to the task. They would eventually get bored or tired of caring or playing with their furry companion... the thought trailed off as Springtrap didn't want to think about snotty kids and their mean ways. The rottweiler still refused to move but stared with an intensity at the treat given to the two other dogs. They did not want it, but they were very cautious. "they do not wish to feast on your treat -- they were once poisoned -- it took several hours to help them recover" he explained, giving the burly dog an affectionate and safe pat.

All of the dogs Springtrap had were from bad homes or experienced bad things, hence why they probably trusted an animatronic more than an actual living organic. But those stories were for another time.

    "I know."

After nibbling their treats, the two tiny dogs licked their chops and sat, staring up at Kyoko patiently. The avoidance of eye contact made it obvious that perhaps Springtrap had mentioned something she wasn't happy to discuss, though this was dismissed as Kyoko explained anyway... albeit vaguely. There were many things that were bad in the outer district (himself included), but things that could kill her? Would it not have been better to stay in the city where nothing could happen? There were more questions than answers, but it was not his place and, frankly, her explanation would do.

    "that"

he paused, not sure what to say.

    "fucking sucks"

Not elegant, but at least to the point.
"kill or be killed is not something -- not something-g-g children should worry about" he stammered, words glitching. Something about children being killed didn't sit right with him, ironically. "if you are the only person who can do this -- that must be very tiring" From the way she explained, not even offering to help seemed like it would work, but then again, Springtrap wasn't even sure what it was. Best not to get involved unless he had to, he figured.

"i can help -- keep an optic out for any -- suspicious things" he offered, the two small dogs happy to receive another portion of Kyoko's treat.

"So, do these guys live in your stronghold with you?"

If by 'stronghold' she meant 'decrepit building, then "yes"
"because of the heat we have been staying in the sanctuary -- however" It'd be unfair to make the animals suffer just because Springtrap couldn't feel it. "when it cools down we will find a more suitable and sturdy establishment to occupy" Be that in the city or outer district, he hadn't a clue.

Post by Kyoko Sakura on Sat Jul 21, 2018 2:34 am

With the way the rottweiler had been staring at the treat, Kyoko had naturally assumed that maybe it wanted some. That was why animals usually stared with those big ole dopey eyes! But as Springtrap explained, it made more sense. There was no wagging tail, not even a hint of drool in those jowls. Nope, the rotty was watching her as if daring her to poison the other two dogs. She frowned at the thought. "That sucks. Poor dog..." She'd remember that. No giving this doggo treats unless it really begged for it. Otherwise...might be a fast track to being bitten.

Being vague kinda sucked. And maybe Springtrap would completely understand if Kyoko explained what her deal was. He was some sort of robot, right? Animal robot? Would a witch really by that weird for him to grasp? ...Hrm. Maybe. It was a horribly convoluted situation, once you knew the whole deal. There was soul mumbo jumbo, magic, despair, witch kisses, labyrinth, pfft. It might make his processors lag. "You've got that right! Lots of things fuckin' suck. Like your poor dog! That sucks too, that it got poisoned!" Kill or be killed was actually a great way to describe it. Kill the witch or be murdered. Kids definitely shouldn't be exposed to that, but perhaps that was the price for a wish. The stammering earned the robot a curious gaze, though she didn't call attention to it. "It can be. I used to have someone helping me but she had to go somewhere else. Still...s'not so bad. I've got a roof over my head and food." She gave the treat another shake. "It could be worse."

"That'd be helpful, thanks!" The teen gave him a toothy grin before bestowing more of the fried dough to the little dogs. Eat up, you little piggies! Now as for Springtrap keeping his optics out for trouble... Kyoko pondered as she broke off another piece and shared it with the chihuahuas. How to best describe this sort of thing to someone with no magical know-how? "If you ever see like...a little black egg, especially in bad areas where people have died or somethin'? Make sure you and your dogs aren't near it. I oughta come by soon enough to take care of it. ...You don't happen to have a cellphone or anything, right?" She doubted it, but it didn't hurt to ask.

Nomming the taiyaki for herself now, Kyoko leaned her elbow upon her knee as she munched and crunched. "Mmph. I like that place, it's like a house where everyone can just drop in and hang out!" Definitely a good place to squat in for a while. It had magic food, a pool, lots of beds... "That's cool!" With only a brief sputter of crumbs, she continued to talk. "I bet you'd like an apartment or somethin'. The inn is nice bu' might not be good for a lot of doggies." Hardly any yard to run around in, after all. After a few more bites, she fed the tail fin to the chihuahuas and brushed the crumbs off of her palms with a clap. The teen remained kneeling though, if only to give the dogs some pets and strokes. "I never bought a place before so I don't know how that stuff works. Sounds like a lot of paperwork and shit." It was all so strangely adult and foreign.

Post by Springtrap on Sat Aug 04, 2018 5:17 pm

A dog lives in the now, but there are always things in the back of its mind it will remember, which helped them live another day. Luckily for the rottweiler, Springtrap was always careful of where he got their food, treats and other things out of concern and care for their specific needs and fears. It was meticulous and at times monotonous, but it proved to work well, as all the dogs were trusting of their animatronic leader, and soon would grow a little more trusting of strangers... to a degree.

"they learned and have moved on -- once they are accustomed to you -- they may wish for a treat later on" Indeed, it sucked, but hey, if Kyoko wandered the outer district often, they'd surely be seeing more of her. His dogs would probably run up to her expecting pets or treats, eventually. "things could always be worse" Springtrap nodded, and while their home wasn't as good as the inn, it was still better than nothing, and the Sanctuary served them well during the hotter days.

    What.
    Egg?
A little black egg around where people have died?
Such a description caused Springtrap to emit a noise akin to a console skipping a disc, trying to understand what she could mean. Nevertheless, he nodded, "that sounds stupid but i will make sure to alert you if such a thing is found" and definitely not touch it. Optics gazed over to the dogs around him in concern, but he knew they were smart not to go near something like that. "i do not have a cellular device but i am certain i can find you easily" he assured her, optics clicking as they focused on the girl. Something about her was so... odd. It was hard for him not to 'sense' her, in an odd way. It was hard to describe, even to himself, but she emitted a strong and odd aura of magic. Perhaps, that would be the best way to describe it. A magical aura, not one of high strength or notice, but still there.

"some day -- we will find a place suitable for all of the pack -- and even more" Maybe a large kennel of sorts. It would be grand to grow the pack and help other dogs and even other animals that required assistance, but Springtrap was limited at the moment, and such an idea would need time to execute. "but do not fret -- you will be alerted of any suspicious do-no-goods in the area -- and i will be cautious."

"Yeah? That sounds like my kind of doggy!" Learning and moving on was the right thing to do! Even though it was poisoned, the dog had learned not to accept treats from just anyone and would eventually warm up to Kyoko. Thinking about it made her want to stroke the dog, but she kept her hands busy with the chihuahuas instead. "I'll make sure I have something tasty for when it finally wants a treat from me." Maybe it'd like something meaty? They were a big dog, after all! The teenager nodded sagely. "Exactly." No matter what, things could always be worse. It was just a matter of making lemonade with the lemons life gives ya! Make something for yourself out of the shit ya get!

Kyoko pursed her lips and tilted her head at the curious sound. Definitely not a 'good' sort of mechanical noise. Mentally noting the sound for future conversations with Springtrap, she continued to observe him quietly as he absorbed the information. His first comment in the situation made her laugh out loud. "Haha! It does sound pretty stupid, huh?" A black egg that lingers in places of despair. It sounded like a depressing easter egg hunt! "Okay, sure! Just look for red hair!" The teen winked, fingernails scratching behind the dogs' ears. Subtly, she indicated to them with her head. "And if that fails, I bet your dogs could sniff me and my food out, like they did today!" Wonder if he had a bloodhound?

"Yeah, I bet you'll be able to find somethin' for your dogs! Room to run around, lots of doggy beds... They'll have a good time." Kyoko herself was absolutely fine with staying at the inn. Maybe one day she'd get her own apartment when she was an adult, but for now? The inn was fine! She grinned at the bunny's reassurance, it'd be nice to have another set of eyes--optics?--in the Outer District! "Hell yeah, we'll be like a team!" After a few moments of silence, doing little else but stroking soft fur, a thought dawned on her. "Were you and your pack looking for a place to stay before they sniffed out my food? I'm not interrupting, am I?"

"Haha! It does sound pretty stupid, huh?"

"not stupid -- just" what's a word... Unnatural? Odd? Curious? "complicated" That'd do. He'd definitely not ask for more detail since Kyoko didn't seem like she wanted to give it in the first place, but, the least he can do was assist whenever he was in the area. Not like he had much else to do! "yes -- they could probably find you faster than i could even with a signal to follow" Dogs were quite good at that, tracking down things and what not. The rottweiler was given another small pat while it seated and leaned itself against the animatronic, causing him to creak a bit.

"Were you and your pack looking for a place to stay before they sniffed out my food? I'm not interrupting, am I?"

Springtrap shook his head, "no -- we were merely wandering around looking for any one else to join our pack" While Kyoko did her rounds searching for Witches, Springtrap did his own rounds, searching for animals that needed assistance or rescuing from uncaring or neglectful owners. "there were not any so far this day" he said with a tiny hint of ease. Dogs were more often in the outer district than cats, no doubt the latter staying in the city for easier access to food and care. Dogs, however... so loyal to their owners, despite what they may be put through. Saddening, but that was what Springtrap's current 'goal' was. Better than setting the city on fire, at least! "a few more blocks and we will return to the pack for a night walk" he stated, optics looking at the smaller dogs that circled Kyoko like sharks.

"i have no seen any dead bodies or odd egg-shaped items in my rounds -- but it has been hours since my last patrol" he stated, tilting his head down the street. "here is hoping you do not find anything troublesome"

Complicated. That was definitely the word for it! "Damn right." She scoffed, flipping a bit of hair behind her back. "I definitely didn't know what I was getting into with all this shit...but you know how it is. Ya just gotta do your best with what you've got." Even if it was a raw deal, it was better than no deal! "Lucky for them, I've always got a snack on me! I bet it'll help with the trackin'." Dogs could be so greedy! She continued to pamper the chihuahuas with affection, smiling to herself when the rotty leaned against Springtrap. He must be a good owner for these dogs to love him so much!

"Aaw..." No new pack members today, which was a good thing! Kyoko began to stroke the little doggos, from their heads to their waggily tails. The fluffy one had such soft fur! "I don't know how anyone could be so mean to a dog. If I had one, I'd take the best care of it! Not just leave it somewhere!" People could be such jerks! And they didn't even need the excuse of magical shenanigans or something to explain it!

"Good. I hope you don't find any more doggies out here on your rounds!" Grinning down at the fuzzy 'sharks', Kyoko paused her affections to look up at the robot. "I might not find somethin', but it's kinda..." She made a 'so-so' gesture. "There's no rhyme or reason to it, yanno? Guess it's like how you can't predict when you'll find a dog." Boy, it'd be nice for there to be a logic to it. 'Every third day, a Grief Seed hatches!'. It'd be easier to make plans for things!
