    A Chance Reunion

Ariana's life after the strange attack in the forest had been quiet. A welcome relief of course, but the quiet provided no answers to her questions. Who was that woman? What was that beast? Why did they decide to attack her? And most importantly...was the feline God really there, or had she just been hearing things? Everything was up in the air. The only way she could think of to get any answers required going back to the forest, which was a no go. Being murdered wasn't exactly on her list of 'to-do's. She focused on her job instead, putting in the hours and bringing home the dough! The young woman stepped out of the restaurant, a to-go bag clenched firmly in hand. She was still dressed in uniform, a bright orange shirt and a little hat atop her head. Her shift had been finished, which meant it was time to head back to the inn. The sun peered over the skyscrapers and made her comfortably warm.

Walking down the sidewalk, Ariana's nose crinkled as the smoke of a passing car drifted into her face. So thick...and unpleasant! She sneezed, free hand digging around inside of her bag. A napkin was pulled out, and used to wipe off her nose. Staying out of the woods was great for avoiding that creature, but the werewolf was really beginning to miss the fresh air and the smell of the wilderness. The taste of a freshly caught kill... The very thought of it made her mouth water. Maybe she could hunt in the grasslands? Catch a rabbit or two? Surely she'd see that hulking beast coming without any trees to hide him! With mind abuzz with ideas for a weekend trip, Ariana continued down the sidewalk in a distracted pace, no hurry to leave the Business District just yet!

    Chuunch....click... Chunch.. click click

Large black claws dug into the stable concrete of a city structure, securing a down facing nargacuga to the side of the building. His tail had used its spikes to click to the building’s roof. Curi had picked one of the taller buildings in the area which over looked the buzzing streets. He was in plain sight but most untrained eyes wouldn’t give his shadowy from any notice. The perks of being intelligent and an apex predator.

A week prior to to day, he might have been much more heavier and fluffier, but after the ever so brilliant Scaramouche dealt with his excessive fur coat he felt like a load had been taken off his shoulders, literally. Sadly this didn’t ease the feeling he got recalling the most recent events that occurred at the lake. In truth it was much of a red blur of violence, like Curi has sat on the side watching as his body fought to the death. And that wasn’t the first time this had happened, which only solidified the explanation of he had been cursed again.

    ”Hufff...

As a huge huffsigh escaped his chest the beast buried the memories of that cursed lake. With the nightmares haunting him it was difficult to get any sleep or even want to, so the fluffy being turned to what a friend had suggested, just not as violent. For closure? Revenge?

Tired amber-ish eyes scanned the crowds of the business district. Busy bodies returning after a grueling day of being busy. What did these non-hunters do? The city didn’t need too many blacksmiths and kitchens. Then again there weren’t any palicos to help about, like with what he had seen.

At one point of his life the curious beast has snuck into a village of hunters and town folks. He was much smaller then and much harder to spot. Mother wasn’t all too happy about it, but father was amused and got swatted for it. She had actually followed his scent to the village and they nearly turned completely it upside down looking for him. The hunters where in such a state of panic because they were being attacked by two very powerful and experienced nargacugas. Not just any ordinary nargacugas, but parents and special subspecies. So when a novice hunter spotted a tiny striped nargacuga kit wandering about she put two and two together.

The red haired hunter fed him some clean raw meat to befriend him then proceeded lead him to his parents. Once they spotted little Curiosity with an unarmed huntress they calmed down enough to carefully approach the pair. Their kit was very happy to see them. Curi has booped his new hunter friend with the top of his head and ran off to greet his parents. He had no understanding of what all the fuss and noise was about, but he did note how worriedly angry his mother was.

In his world creatures that weren’t humanoid didn’t speak any language of their own. Everything was expressed through actions and everything that happened was a lesson to be learned. So having happened upon a hunting party taking down one of his kind was an eye opener. Since then the beast had learned that valuable lesson and took more care in  learning to survive hunters.

Nightmare red eyes sifted through the busy herds of the districts for swish of midnight black hair or a glint of ruby red eyes. As the seconds ticked by his grip tightened as his frustration grew, until eventually the deviant released a huge and heavy huffsigh of defeat. He would have to try either a different area or perhaps tomorrow, most likely the latter as this would be about the time his favorite people seems most free to hang out in the place called the Sanctuary.

    Sniff.... Sniff.... Huff...

Curiosity closed his tired eyes and concentrated on the smells and noises, a last attempt before . He  filter out the sound of wheels and traffic, followed by the smell of food. The later had been more difficulty as it perked his interests. The sounds of laughter, much too light or deep to be her, and the voices of chittering children all but faded into the background. The beast had been with her long enough that he could track her in his sleep, but lately he has had no luck.

    Sniff...Sniff?...

A particularly familiar scent passed by him gaining his complete interest. Hunting Scarlett would have to wait a new self proclaimed task has been acquired. A scent covered in the thick smell of lard and cooked red meat had made itself known.

Tamed bufango... potaters?.... fluffy brown thing... NO... wolf...

Curi angled his head to better follow the scent of the one he dubbed as the shifting lady. He quietly released his tail’s grip on the structure and climbed upwards from his perch to to roof. The beast was careful not to leave more than a few small holes where his claws had gripped.

Once on the roof the deviant took to the ledge and jumped right off. He spread his wings and lazily followed the scent to some kind of restaurant. The smell of lard and cooked red meat was strongly emanating from it, assurance that he was on the right track.

Landing near the structure, the nargacuga  noiselessly prowled around it until he hear cute sneeze. Striped furry ears perked up at the sound as it was followed by a rustling of a pack. Curiously the deviant followed his ears on paws to who the source was. A brown haired woman dressed in bright orange cloths and a matching hat stood before him.

It was most definitely her! The bare traces of a wild wolf in her scent as a dead give away.. unless there was more than one. Hmmm... sniff.. sniff..

Of course his silent steps hasn’t alerted her of his presence, good thing too he hadn’t quite a clue one what to do now. He couldn’t speak to her... just how was he going to apologize ??? The large beast paused to think this through, he actually trailed her as she moved about.

    ”Kitty!!! “
    “Alora! Wait! OH! Sis!”

A sudden weight on his cheek told him that someone had glomped his face. Tiny blue hands stroked his furry chin eliciting a loud purr, so much for his stealth. The larger of the two blue aliens, the male, made it to their side. His little sister was already losing herself with his fur, again. This wasn’t the first time they had met, and Curi could only guess it wasn’t the last either. Taking a quick glance at his target then the pair’s parents standing on the sidewalk waving sheepishly.

    ”Prrrrrr...

Since he couldn’t move his head or risk knocking over the child he had to find another way of getting the shifter’s attention.

    Oh! Maybe soon.. Prrrrrrrr~

the small blue hands had found the spot under his fluffy chin that would usually case a cat to lean in or flop over, with a chance of swishing her all the beast could do was lean into her. Unfortunately, front the shifter’s angle it might have looked like he was going to eat the innocent little girl. What ever would the shifter do if she saw him like this?

Ariana remained ignorant of the creature that tailed her, mind distracted by her own thoughts. Rabbit made for a tasty treat, not big enough for a full meal but definitely a snack! A quick little hunting trip would shake the cobwebs off of her bones. An excited yell drew her out of her own brain, especially since it was so close to her. Something about a kitty? A large one from the sound of that purr... Fueled by little more than a sense of curiosity, the young woman turned to look and found herself locking up almost immediately. The fingers still holding onto her bag clenched enough to tear through the paper. Fear was written all over her face. Fear...and anger.

"You-!" All this time Ariana thought she'd be safe in the city! And here it was, just sitting there! Had it come just to pick another fight? Or-- remembering the child's voice, she noticed a little blue girl snuggling into that beast. Nuzzling into his fluff and scratching under his chin. Her neck seemed to crack as she glared at the alien parents. "What's wrong with you?! What kind of irresponsible parents just lets their kid go cuddle with some... monster!" Snapping her glare back to the nargacuga and his possible prey, Ariana did what she could do in this situation. She raised the bag of food over her head and threw it right at the beast. It likely wouldn't hit its mark, or it'd bounce uselessly off of his hide. It was just a paper bag with a burger inside, not exactly a javelin. It was clear that the young woman hadn't really thought through her 'attack'.

"Get away from that kid! Go back to the forest and find somebody else to munch on!" Anger was surging like a red hot blaze in her veins. Yet she couldn't deny a prickle of fear at seeing the one thing she'd been hoping to avoid. It made its way to the city, seemingly followed her here... Would it try this again? Was it just not going to give up til it ate her? Ariana's fists shook, falling into a silent fuming as she waited to see what would happen.

    ’TULSIT!!! ‘
    CRUNCH!

The beast felt the blood drain from his furry face as she turned around and froze at the site of his glorious deadly fluff. It was like time decided to make it more excruciating by slowing down and petrify him. The child who was rubbing her face into his chin was practically trying to nuzzle her way into his beakmaw. So he kept tightly shut in the case that was her actual goal. He pitied the fragile paper bag and it’s contents crushed in the shifter’s most capable hands. Somehow it seemed like it wasn’t the only one going to get a crunching.

    "You-!"

The words not only seemed to drip surprise and fear but pure and warranted hatred. Curi understood and agreed with her. He too would have reacted similarly, maybe more violently than just yelling. He felt himself cringe and shrink away involuntarily, in effect pulling the little confused blue child closer to his chest. The beast had seen the woman fight and even as she was now she could harm the children. Curi hadn’t noticed that she looked up at him curiously, as if sensing his unease. He was too busy trying to shrink and think of ways to convey his many apologies. Such innocence...

    ”Kitty? What’s wro-”

"What's wrong with you?! What kind of irresponsible parents just lets their kid go cuddle with some... monster!"

The deviant’s gaze lowered to the pavement shamefully, he even flinched at the way she called him a monster. Normally, the beast found it hilarious when he was called a monster, beast, thing, bird-thing, Fluffy, the bestest pudpud, kitty, and etc. This time though there was nothing to laugh at, someone had gotten hurt and nearly died too. Even if he was also in a near state of death himself, the nargacuga was so much bigger than her. He should never have attacked her in the first place. Let’s not even mention that neither of her masses would ever have filled his belly. Though in his defence, being cursed by an all powerful demon to revert into a sadistic cold-blooded killing machine there was no chance of him being gentle or just killing for a meal.

Around them curious onlookers paused to see what the shouting was about. Odd enough this particular beast clambering carefully around the city wasn’t anything new, after he’d been doing it for over a few months now. The intelligence that set him apart from being a mere animal seemed like it was still well hidden from the masses. He’d pretty much left tiny marks on where he had passed. Whether they were gripping holes from his sharp bits or fuzz balls of his shedding fur. It was hard not to with his size and the season, but he did his best to be very careful so not to hurt anyone.

As soon as she raised her tasty smelling bag over bear head the beast knew she was going to throw it at them. Call it instinct. It was silly to think that the bag of who knows what will dissuade him from anything other than possible regretting eating it. Indigestion is no laughing matter for those who hunted to survive. Instinctively, the Silverwind curled his neck around the children to keep whatever the the bag contained from hitting them. With how crazy the shifter had been during their first meeting he couldn’t be sure if she was throwing any dangerous to this children.

"Get away from that kid! Go back to the forest and find somebody else to munch on!"

Unfortunately, the bag had been most unpleasantly ripped up while it was crushed in her sudden grip, so it’s contents went sailing out of the tatered paper and through the air. Her aim was better in the forest, where she nearly had severed a very important blood vessel the first time they met.

Fearing for the worst the deviant tensed protectively around the little blue hatchlings, while the messy mixture of meat, bun, and add-ons entangled themselves into the his regal furry head. A few soggy green leaves and smelly circular things attached themselves to the side of his cheek and left ear. Their coating of sweet brown sauce helped to stick as its brethren fell off harmlessly. The bouncy soft thing with tiny seeds some how found their way to his for head, it looked like an odd hat sitting at an angle. The other half of the soft thing, still attached to the tempting succulent circular meat, found itself stuck and blocking one of Curi’s nostrils. Over his fearfully shut left eye another of these circularly cut meats sat, accompanied by thin strips of crunchy bullfango. It made him look quite angry, if not silly.

Curiosity didn’t know what to make of the mess, he had waited a few seconds to see if it would blow up or melt his face, but nothing. Nothing but a mess of tasty- NOO! Must resist licking everything off! It might be poisonous! Or worse his display of hungry could scare the little blue hatchlings. Now that he thought about them he noticed that the younger of the pair seemed to have grown a bit since they last they had met. Deep down he fear the day she would stop believing that he was a giant kitty with wings. Hopefully, she wouldn’t see him like how the shifter in front of them saw him. The monster he was...

Carefully, the beast opened his eyes and uncurled his protective embrace. His uncovered eye stare sharply at the shifter, as if unsure where he wanted to swat her for making a ridiculous mess of wasted meal or to berate her for throwing at the little blue children. Let’s just not mention the tiny hungry thoughts he got from resisting to clean up the mentioned mess.

” Hey! What was that for?! He wouldn’t eat us! Leave him alone! ”

Exclaimed the little blue boy as he ducked under the wickedly sharp part of the beakmaw and approached the shifter, looking like he wanted to give her a price of his mind. The movement had the beast stiffening and freezing up as not to accidentally nick the brave soul. Before the aforementioned child could get too close to the wolf woman the nargacuga caught the back of his shirt and gently stopped him.

    ”Trrufff!...

What sounded like a tiger’s chuffle but much deeper emitted from the nargacuga. He only hoped that the shifter understood what it meant. A tiger would use it as a greeting, since it did not purr. Nargacugas could purr so Curi’s kind didn’t use it exactly the same way. In their case it was more of a peaceful neutral greeting, usually used in passing through another’s territory. It was as close a sheepish greeting the deadly furballs could muster.

Evidently, he looked different from the last they’d met. The feral thirst for blood and a good brawl were nowhere in sight. Lately, he looked like a shell of the proud beast who first pounced into this new world. He had a right to, after what had just happened with his rider. His wild sadistic nature, a sure sign of the affliction, he had when they last met was gone. The thought of possibly preying or hunting in the city or other intelligent beings seemed to be just a passing thought, more like an inside joke, even if it were an initial thought.

In this settlement if the deviant was hungry all he needed to do was drop by the sanctuary. That’s if he didn’t feel like flying to the forest to hunt, but with the demonic elder dragon flying about near that area it was a no go.

His rather suicidal plan to lure it into a fight over the demonic lake was... Vetoed. Apparently, they were waiting for something to happen. Perhaps the dragon would just explode into bits or poof into nothingness? That was the hope.

Ears flat and with shy posture the deviant stole glances at the furious woman. He still has yet to convey his deepest apologies for outright attacking her. As if to make matters worse, his keen ears picked up sniffling sounds from under his chin. Crying? But wh- oh no the little one!

Shooting the shifter a look of blame before shaking off most of the mess she had made he curled up around the blubbering child. His concerned cooing and constant comforting purr was very effective in making those tears vanish quickly. With her half hidden him his chest fluff he stole a quick glance at the wolf woman. With in a few moments the little girl was wiping her tears looking confusedly at the brightly uniformed shifter.

    ”Why?”

A simple question directed to the huffing puffing wolf shifter. The same question that had the large foreboding beast looking very ashamed and as apologetic as can be. If he could he would have to shrunk into nothingness. Cursed beakmaw!! unable to communicate like those around him. If it has been someone he knew Curi would have approached them and nuzzled their with his apology, but from the way this woman reacted he knew it would have made things worse.

Post by Ariana Lee on Tue Jul 31, 2018 12:43 am

Unfortunately, Ariana's dinner was hardly a good weapon. Food merely splattered over the creature's face in a way that would have been comical if she weren't so upset. The attempt to intimidate Curiosity fell as flat as the bun atop his fuzzy head. Her failure only made the woman more upset, if she had fur it'd be standing on end. To make up for her lack of intimidating features as a human, Ariana's shoulders squared stiffly. Her back was ramrod straight, attempting to make herself taller as she stared down the beast. The children were almost forgotten about, dark brown eyes staring into crimson furiously. Almost.

” Hey! What was that for?! He wouldn’t eat us! Leave him alone! ”

Anger subsided, giving way as Ariana's sneer shifted into a deep frown. The alien child spoke up in defense of his furry friend, apparently thinking that the beast was his friend. "I know you don't understand. He's soft and cute, so he must be safe. I'm just trying to look out for you and your sister. He's dangerous." Upset as she was, the woman didn't have the heart to yell at the little boy. It wasn't his fault... Though, as she looked at these kids, the werewolf realized that she hadn't seen any sign of the beast's rider and partner in crime.

Before the kid could stomp his way over to Ariana, Curiosity reached out with that fearsome maw and grabbed him by the back of his shirt. The woman stiffened, obviously distrusting the beast and especially the notion of that boy being so close to his mouth. And yet, the grab reminded her of how a wolf would handle its pup, taking it by the scruff. Perhaps he wouldn't hurt these kids after all? There was no way for her to be sure, and the shapeshifter didn't like feeling so unsure. At the strange sound, a bit of her hostility seemed to edge off. The chuff was hardly a sound of intimidation or anger. And the monster did look...different. Tamer, for sure. But why such a drastic change?

How a beast like him could send a look of blame was beyond Ariana. It made her steel herself against him once again, eyes narrowing as she followed his gaze to the source of the crying. It was the little girl, taking cover in Curiosity's fluffy chest. Perhaps being yelled at by a stranger was scary, but wouldn't the large nargacuga be more worthy of fright? The woman looked away, arms folding over her chest as the beast apparently calmed her down. It was a strange situation to be in, for sure. At the question, the werewolf's eyes darted back in the direction of the little girl and the beast. "He, and his friend, attacked me in the woods. He tried to eat me. I only got away because someone else intervened to save me. I thought...that he'd kill the both of you, too." Maybe she was wrong about that, but it didn't make her trust him.

"I know you don't understand. He's soft and cute, so he must be safe. I'm just trying to look out for you and your sister. He's dangerous."

    Snort!...

Well, the shifter was one to speak about being dangerous, she herself was practically a city wolf in sheep’s clothing. Whatever that meant... hmmm... where was that from? He noticed that she had stiffened when he has handled the little boy’s shirt with the upmost gentle care. The little blue boy had looked up at the beast curiously. She’d called him cute... it sounded mocking rather than the way the others say it.. Huff...

’As cute as your wolf form maybe...’

    “Huff!”

”Cute?! Haha! As cute as a knife with wings maybe! But he has been nothing but gentle and patient with my sister!.. Maybe there is another one of him flying around attacking people?”

As this the large deadly fluff shook his head and dipped his head shamefully, a start of an apology which had no way to be conveyed. How was he going to explain them that that was him who attacked under an unnatural influence. And if he could would they believe him? What would the children think?

    ”Tulsit...”

"He, and his friend, attacked me in the woods. He tried to eat me. I only got away because someone else intervened to save me. I thought...that he'd kill the both of you, too."

At the mere mention of a friend that attacked her the beast’s eyes flashed their well known red angry streaks. To be associated with HER?! By his tail was he going to let that pass!

    ”Rrrrr! ...”

    ”Whoah! Kitty?  Calm down..”

Words lost in his rage. With a short growl the deviant tapped his tail on the ground behind them, causing it to crack slightly. He had fallen back into a memory of their last meeting at the lake. Curi count help but see red, and from the look of it he was glaring at the shifter, but if she looked carefully the anger and pain wasn’t directed at her.

The painful memory flashed passed his eyes, cause him to shake slightly with the pent up frustration of being unable to communicate back and clarify. A soft touch woke him from his reminiscences of that awful moment. His claws had dug easily into the concrete pavement. The spikes of his tail had found themselves deep into a nearby tree, effectively holding him prisoner.

Curi swiftly tugged his tail free and took a deep calming breath. As he exhaled he retracted his claws from the ground. The streaks of red trails that followed his eyes faded into nothing. The calmer deviant tilted his head to eye the concerned looking little blue female.

”Kitty?... Not let-t her hurt Ooo”

A surprised look found itself on the nargacuga’s beaked face. Could she tell? If she could his memories had been quite graphic terrible for the eyes of children. Was she like Kev?... No probably not.. She was probably talking about the shifter.

With a reassuring nuzzle the beast curled around more snuggly around his little protector. Looking sadly at the probably freaking out wolf, Curi slowly moved to touch the top on his sauce matted head to the shifter’s hand. His eyes apologetically looking up at her, even if he didn’t have away to explain why he attacked her in the forest, Curi wanted to convey his apology. There wasn’t time to hunt down a gift for her, he might have better luck with snatching a tiny lagombi from the grassland’s edge but those tend to look scrawny and fragile.

”Cute?! Haha! As cute as a knife with wings maybe!

    Wait...

So this little boy clearly saw this beast as dangerous, but still let his kid sister play with him? And where were the parents in all of this?! Ariana huffed and ran her fingers through her scalp. Obviously, children had gotten strange since she'd last checked. Willingly playing with a 'knife with wings', thinking this predator was capable of being gentle with his sister. Didn't he know better than to let himself be tricked? The prospect of there being multiples of this being did sound promising, and the young woman began to relax. A brief glance in Curiosity's direction saw him shaking his head and looking down at the floor. So he was intelligent enough to semi-answer questions?

For whatever reason, telling these children what had happened seemed to trigger something in the creature. Ariana froze up, arms drawn close to herself as her eyes narrowed. The skin of her forearms rippled in a rather inhuman fashion, the werewolf actively suppressing the urge to shift at the signs of apparent danger. Whatever had set a bee in its bonnet, the beast was ornery and upset! His eyes were a flaring red, something quite familiar to Ariana now. Claws dug into the asphalt and his tail slammed down upon the road and then into a tree. The gaze he sent her way burned, but it was less focused than the accusing glare he'd given earlier. As if he wasn't looking at her, rather, he was staring straight on through. Digging the soles of her sneakers into the road, she nevertheless readied herself for another fight.

After a moment though, he seemed to get a hold of himself. Still hesitant, Ariana nevertheless decided to get a hold on herself as well. A few deep breathes and counting to twenty did the trick for her. Not so sure about Curiosity, though the peepers of a kid seemed to do the trick. Though the guilt trip made her scoff. "Didn't you hear what I just said?! He tried to kill me!" Peh...as if that giant beast needed a protector. Especially some innocent little girl. Shifting her accusing glare to the aforementioned beast, the young werewolf took in his guilty and apologetic gaze. There was some sort of remorse there. But then why the freak out...? Why attack in the first place? She stepped forward, ignoring any resistance, and stared down at the Nargacuga. For his part, the beast merely stared up at her sadly and even nudged his skull against her palm. Ariana cringed at the feeling, tempted to strike Curi in pure instinct after how their last meeting had ended. With a deep breath, she swallowed down the feeling. Hurting him right now would do nothing.

"You seem like you can understand me, so I want some answers." Unfortunately, she'd obviously need to use questions with yes or no answers. There were so many explanations she wanted, but maybe... Maybe if she could get at least something. Ariana chewed her lip thoughtfully before she spoke. "I...enjoyed our fight for a bit. I did. But then... You tried to eat me." Frowning, she swallowed thickly. "W-was that your intention all along? To just eat me?" To toy around with her before letting her fall into his vast gullet?

"Didn't you hear what I just said?! He tried to kill me!"

A muffled giggle of glee answered her back as the little blue child covered half her face with two sleeved hands. The grey sleeves themselves were striped with a rose ping but as it got to her little torso it drew a big blue cat. It was quite plain for all to see what kind of animal was her favorite. Sorry puppy~

    ”Not-t youu si-li.. red iyz”

    ”Huh? Red eyez?”

’ How does she know?.... Does she know?’

The beast’s eye widened as the child spoke. His gaze traveled from the upset shifter to the little blue girl hiding in the comforts of his chest fluff. He scanned her face for any sign of a reply but only received another set of delightful giggles and a cute little blown raspberry.

As he apologetically touched his head to the shifter’s hand the beast noticed her cringe and fight the instinct to hit him. Had she hit him, the beast he would not have retaliated nor tried to shied way from it. The stunt he pulled at the end, to crush her with Nym’s heavy metallic arm was enough to earn him a bonebreaking beating. It was a cheap move and he had no control.. no.. He had control. What he didn’t have was ideals and remorse. With the curse active at that time, the deviant only wanted to brutalize and hunt things for the rush. Before his arrive at the Breach Curi has indeed played with his food before killing it swiftly, but he only took what he needed. As a skilled hunter and fighter the beast could easily get what he needed.

"You seem like you can understand me, so I want some answers."

A single nod of his great regal sauce matted head confirmed that he could indeed understand her. The Deviant would answer what he could with his limited communication capabilities.

"I...enjoyed our fight for a bit. I did.”

Large black catlike ears flicked up with joy and surprise. His eyes lit up brightly in agreement while his tail curled and uncurled recalling the excitement. He too had definitely enjoyed the spar-like fight, that was before things got out of hand.

”But then... You tried to eat me."

Large nightmare red orbs widened as she continued, his ears flattened against his skull shamefully. His tails stopped it’s happy curls and went limp on the pavement. He hadn’t tried to eat her that time. The beast didn’t have anything like her in his world, so he wanted to find out what her other form was called. Curi had snatched this shifter out of the air to inquire this from his Ex-rider, but then things got out of hand. Not able to meet her fierce gaze the beast lowered his to her feet.

"W-was that your intention all along? To just eat me?"

Slowly, Curi shook his head, but then paused thinking hard about the rush.. the abandonment... the lack of morals. The more he thought about it the more he couldn’t quite find the answer. Surely he found her to be too good a fighter to want to eat. Had things been different he would have loved to spar and go hunting with her.

    ’ I don’t know....’

Normally, he would fight a good opponent till they gave up and got chase out of the territory. In this case his morals had been ripped up into shreds and devoured by that demon lurking in the lake. He had enough control to play and fight but he lost it after her howl. His rage mode had been different then, purely sadistic(not that he wasn’t sometimes quite sadistic in these fights)...

The great land lizards that noisily came stomping into his territory usually took the brunt of his sadistic streak. They were just too dumb to see the warning signs he left around the boarders of his territory. Then they had the nerve to bring an entire pack of even noisier bipedal lizards to terrorize the balanced herds of herbivores that the Deviant has been taking very good care of. You know only taking what he needed and picking off the weakest links only when the time came. Curi is a very patient hunter who didn’t mind going hungry for a while so that his territory flourished enough to stay balanced. He’d learned over hunting destroyed territories, the hard way.

Shutting his down casted eyes, the silverwind thought about the answer to the simple question. Down and down the lagombi cave he went. He hadn’t noticed how he had fences or how his breathing had sped up until a light tugging of a hand full of chest fluff snapped him out of it.

    ”Kitty?”

With a deep and tired sighhuff the beast opened his eyes to look at the little blue alien. She was holding up a drawing she had made with a wax colouring tools. The picture itself was nothing too spectacular but with a bit of angling it looked familiar... it was the view he got from flying above! How convenient a map! Not just of any where. It showed a bit of the city at one corner, the mountains in another, and at the center is what struck dread into this large beast’s heart. The Lake... it even had a very sinister looking face etched into its blue waters. As sinister as a pair of yellow eyes and a mouth could be as it smiled at its viewers

    ”Hey, Kitty breath!”

Blinking the beast released the breathe he had apparently been holding since he’d saw the face in the lake. Thank you little blue male. He nudged the little girl’s drawing towards the shifter so she can see. Once she’d seen enough to recognize what it was and the cute little drawing of a brown wolf fighting a big black cat with white stripes in the forest, Curi moved. His tail normally steady, as seen when they were fighting, was shaking as used it to bring focus on the demon cursed lake. An explanation of sorts. Maybe the smart wolf would put two and two, even if this was so vague?

Ariana was confused even further when the little girl covered her face and giggled. What was so funny about this? She certainly saw nothing funny about this entire situation! The young woman huffed lowly and rolled her eyes, turning away from the little girl. She was all set to ignore the odd child when she spoke up with a very...confusing elaboration. Ariana turned to look back at her, brows raised. "Red eyes?!" Although Curi had some creepy red eyes of his own, it was clear she wasn't talking about the 'kitty'. There was only one other person who could fit that description that she knew of!

What really started the fight had been a young woman with bright red eyes. She had launched a stick for Ariana as if it were a javelin, and the Nargacuga had attacked after! At the time, the werewolf thought that the other woman had been a hunter of some kind. With the beast as her attack dog. But here he was, without her. The absence of the red eyed woman was very deafening now, and with what the little girl said... What could have happened between them? Perhaps the friends that slay together, do not stay together.

She would have demanded answers even if the beast seemed like he didn't want to take part, but it was still good to see him nod in agreement. Ariana was still extremely wary, but every gentle body language, each collected response... All of it seeded doubt in her assumption that the creature was a single-minded being of destruction. His ears lifted up in an obvious display of happiness at her admission. The Nargacuga had definitely enjoyed the fight, just as she had. The werewolf could tell when they had been brawling! But something...changed. Upon being reminded, the beast became ashamed. The young woman frowned to herself as he lowered himself and all signs of excitement came to an abrupt stop. Could he really regret what he'd done?

With a sigh, Ariana removed her hand from the beast's head. It was sticky from the sauce, and she felt bad for tossing the burger at him. It was a waste of food, and all she'd done was dirty him up. Lip curling in disgust, she shook her hand idly in an attempt to flick off the sauce. By the time she turned back to him, he seemed to be having a panic attack of some kind. His breathing had become labored, tensing tightly just as he had earlier! The young woman took a firm step back, just as tense before the little girl interrupted. You know, this blue child would have been useful when he was freaking out before!

Nudging something in the girl's hands towards Ariana, she quirked an eyebrow and leaned in to see it better. Oh, it was a piece of paper! A...drawing? It'd be adorable, if it wasn't for the subject matter. A familiar brown wolf and a certain murderous kitty. Their fight in the forest was more innocent in this crayon interpretation. "How...? How did you-?" It wasn't as if the beast could tell her what happened so... How could she recreate it? Was she secretly there?! Curi used his tail to indicate something else on the paper. Between the forest and the mountains was a lake, with an evil face in yellow crayon. The werewolf tensed, disturbed by the malicious face.

"Is...that why everything changed?" Ariana whispered hoarsely, shaking lightly. She didn't know about the demon possessed lake, but this looked evil and...freaky. "I wish I understood...but I...there was a voice, when I was dangling in your mouth. It spoke to me, reassured me, and... I just lost all control." She'd avoided admitting it, but Curiosity was hardly the only one to become monstrous in the fight. Nothing would have stopped her, but death. Turning to the creature, she frowned deeply. "Did that happen to you, too?" Had she been affected just by being around the Nargacuga? Was this thing...infectious?
