Let it never be said that Metal Man didn't know how lucky he was that his earpieces were interchangeable. Made a replacement a breeze if you had the tools to put it back together. Especially after Shen Woo had busted the other one all to hell and it had fallen off the moment he touched it. Now that had been awkward. Who ever heard of someone's earpiece just snapping clean off?

He held a replacement earpiece in his hands together, seeming to fidget it like it was the latest fidget toy. Which probably wasn't always the smartest idea but he just had pent up energy still. Maybe a walkabout after he got the repair would get his mind back to equilibrium after Mister Shen's Wild Ride had been too wild for him. Yes, Shen Woo was a little too wild for the red Robot Master.

Thankfully there was a robot ward to the hospital; not that he was prejudiced or anything, but it seemed really convenient that there was a unit for guys like him, brothers of the alloy. He sat in a carefully measured position, so as not to end up stuck to something. Bluh, maybe one day he would see what it was like to go sawless. But not armorless. Never armorless.

    Click

    Clack

    Click

    Clack...

"Hm?" Cyan optics shuttering, Dr. SALLI took note of the robot that was seated in the hallway. It was rather hard to miss the mech! Covered in pointy bits, coloring that was bright reds and yellows... Apparently injured, if he had come here. The doctor took a quick glance around, as if making sure whether there were any other patients around. She had been in the middle of her rounds, but there was no one in serious condition at the moment. No call buttons had been pressed. She could spare her time to help out this little mech.

With a clipboard held firmly in front of her, SALLI approached so that they were face to face. With a kind smile, she spoke up. "Hello, citizen! My name is Dr. SALLI. Do you need medical assistance today?"

He finally looked up, a surprised expression in his optics; he had since replaced the mask that Shen had broke with one of his many, numerous replacement masks. He had to keep at least a thousand of those among his parts in case for a reason.

"Oh, um, yes. A minor procedure. You see, one of the sensors of one of my audial units is damaged and I need help getting the replacement piece into place." It never hurt to be honest for once in his life.

Ugh, that made him sound terrible. No, he wasn't a complete liar, though he had been a shady sort of bot back home. After all, weren't all the Doctor Wily Numbers like that? Shady hood rats?

He would show the replacement piece, which he had been twiddling in his hands nervously. "Shall I go to an examination room? Or a lab table?" He wasn't sure which.

"Aah, a minor procedure?" Sounded simple enough. Audials were pretty by the book. Even more, it seems this young robot already had a replacement piece! He merely needed assistance putting it into place, which made sense. Sometimes repairing oneself could be difficult. Leaning in to look over the piece he showed, SALLI's optics were bright with curiosity. "Ah, I see! This should be an easy enough fix." With a small nod, she stepped out of his personal space. "I think an examination room will provide suitable lighting for this procedure."

Glancing around the hallway, it took only a moment for her to identify an examination room that was not being used. Dr. SALLI waved for him to follow, walking across the hallway and opening a room. She flicked the lights on, the fluorescent lighting buzzing overhead. It was a very clinical looking room, sterile with not even a speck of dust. The robot stood before the examination table, a hand out to help him up if needed. "Will this piece click into place, or will I need a resin or screw to hold it in place?"

He nodded eagerly. "Very much so." It did help that he was good about having replacement parts. His ears were, in fact, the second-most-common replacement part right after his masks. And then was his legs, since he used them so damned much. "Oh thank goodness. I really don't like having to be on lab tables for very long." Which, when you were in Skull Fortress, had been one of the big constants of Wily Number life. He could count the number of times he'd ended up on a lab table on the spikes of his paldron saws.

He settled in, carefully hopping up onto the table without much effort. He seemed almost deft in his movements, graceful even now despite any damage or exhaustion he was displaying--or even any subtle glitches. "It usually resins or welds in place." He offered. He was so used to Dr. Wily welding it into place that he'd forgotten that it was possible to resin it in place, like Gemini Man had done for him while the Seconds, Thirds, and Sevenths had repaired one another after the attack on the fortress. It had held extremely well and had been quite useful for other bots among the Wily Numbers with extraneous bits and bobs as well. So of course, ol' Number 9 had to test it first.

"Is that right? I'll keep that in mind for future visits, then!" No lab tables for this robot, at least not for a long duration of time. Hopefully, it wasn't too strange for the doctor to already be thinking about potential visits in the future. For one reason or another, people didn't tend to drop by the hospital only once during their stay in the Breach! The crimson robot hopped up quite easily. SALLI withdrew her hand, the other carefully setting down her clipboard to better handle the piece that Metal had given her.

"In that case, I think welding will do the job." She held the piece steady between her fingers, carefully observing both of his ears. Long, yellow in color, and a good capacity for movement. Much like an animal's ears, perhaps! Body language and all that. Dr. SALLI only really had her own face to work with, primarily expressions tied to her optics and mouth. Cyan optics narrowed in on the spot that needed repairing. With a surgical ease, she set the piece and lined it up as best as she could picture it. Making sure the grooves would fit together. Once satisfied, SALLI's left hand transformed into a small welding torch. The heat hummed from her former palm as she brought it to his ear.

    FSSSST! FSSSST!

"There. Give it a wiggle and let me know if it seems like it's set correctly?" Dr. SALLI requested calmly.

"Thanks!" It wasn't unusual to him, but he hoped he didn't have to become a frequent flyer. He had a feeling that if he had a repeat of the Shen-cident, the Shen-anigan, it might be a terrible fate. Hopefully one day he could come here not as the patient, but bringing someone, or to visit someone. Mind you he had no idea about healing nanites or anything. Just that most of the time, you visited people in the hospital. He'd visited Dr. Wily in the hospital a few times after a few fortresses hadn't...exactly been the most sturdy. Actually, he'd had to help Shadow Man carry Dr. Wily to a couple of those hospitals.

He nodded succinctly. He was used to welds or resins, yes. At least he wasn't Turbo Man, the poor guy had similar ear-type but constantly needed them resined in place. But he was kind of jealous at the same time. His brother was a car. A really cool car. A Formula-1 Race Car. That's right, close his optics, think of race cars. The welding would be over quickly and he'd be back on his feet in no time.

He tried to focus on his emotions, ear darting up, then darting down as he parsed through his emotional programing. Oh, right. Excited. Maybe excited would help him too. It certainly helped with a good wag. Yep, that was definitely tight in place, to not be cracked so easily. "Tighter in place than the last time I had to have it replaced!" No, the last time he'd had to, Wily's welder was low on gas and he'd just made the Eighth numbers. "Thanks! Heh, better than even...than...my dad would be so jealous."

"You are very welcome, citizen!" A bit odd to call him 'citizen', perhaps, but he hadn't given a name yet. For Dr. SALLI, citizen was the default title to all who populated the Breach! Her hand shifted back into an actual hand once again, fingers flexing gently as she stepped back. The robot was able to move his ears in numerous positions without an issue, and the repair certainly looked sturdy! The comparison made her giggle softly, flattered even though she didn't know this robot's 'father'. Was he a robot given the designation of father? Or just his organic creator?

"Why, thank you!" She tittered again, giving Metal a soft smile. "Jealousy or no, your father must be brilliant for you to compare him to me." Both hands reached for the clipboard, holding it snug to her chest. "I am pleased to have helped you! Is there anything else you need my help with today?"

Citizen. It felt strange to be called that, but in a way, almost calming. He didn't want to hear his name right now, nor did he want to give a false name. Metal Man, though he was, was nervous about any stigma his name carried even here, as what if SALLI remembered a past Metal? Not that he knew that the other either fixed himself or ended up in the Pool of Souls for his efforts.

He almost wanted to say to check his code. He almost wanted to say it, but his core was starting to pulse erratically. "Not today. Again, thank you. I...may we see each other under less repair-y circumstances next time!" Like him visiting a patient. Maybe one day a future friend. Or maybe a bot who had to stay overnight or something. Or maybe if he tried being a candy-striper.

Wait. Him, a candy-striper? Nah. Who would believe him as a hospital volunteer?

"You're welcome! Again!" The crimson robot certainly seemed to be a polite one! Did he wish to just drop by for a visit sometime? There weren't many occasions outside of repair that one would come to see SALLI, but perhaps a visit would be nice. It wasn't something she was used to, but that wasn't a bad thing either. "Sure, I wouldn't mind seeing you again!" It'd be better than meeting him when he was ripped to pieces or something.

Holding the door open for Metal to step out, she gave him one more wave before she walked away. The doctor carried herself with the same energy as she had when she first encountered the robot. It was like an automated car turning back onto the tracks after a brief detour. A brief glance of her clipboard saw SALLI stepping into a different door to check on the progress of a different patient. Busy, busy!
